Michelle was on her way out of college for the day. She had an armful of books and she was trying to reach around for the other sleeve of her jacket as she walked. All of this, of course, made for a minor catastrophe and her books went falling to the floor.
"Oh, for fuck's sake, fucking-- fuck, I'm not the only person in the hallway."
She'd lost me. Was she saying there was no soccer or no football? I guess I'd have to figure that out later.
"Okay, so what does everyone do here for fun?" Great, now she probably thinks that I think the only fun things in life are choir and football. Perfect.
I wasn't sure what spliff was, but I assumed it was some kind of drug. Luckily I had watched Austin Powers movies or else I wouldn't have known what shagging had meant either. Aside from sneaking drinks every now and then, taking drugs from Mrs. Schue, and making out with Quinn and Rachel, I realized how sheltered I really was back home.
"Oh. Sounds fun. Except for the...not shagging part." I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The worst stuff I'd done was all with the football team, and it was mostly to do with throwing eggs and bags of urine at people.
Now that sounded like something that would happen with the football guys. Mostly Puck...it was hard to think about him without getting angry again, but I grimaced slightly, nodding.
"That sounds great. So, where does everyone here stay and like eat and everything?"
Michelle laughed. He was cute, in an innocent way.
"You don't have to pay. Everyone's got a tab. As long as you go to school or have a job, you don't really have to worry about money. That's one of the more brilliant parts."
"Wow, the rest of the world should be like this you know? Then there wouldn't be any starving children in Africa."
I've decided that I probably should just stop talking. I cleared my throat. "Anyway, the hotel sounds great and I don't want to keep you standing here with all these books. I can take some if you want."
I wish I didn't always make things so awkward. With a pile of books in my hand, I followed her out of the school and to the hotel. I started talking again, to continue conversation, but I definitely wasn't very good at it.
"So everyone in this village stays at the hotel? Do they all have their own rooms?"
"Usually they have roommates. Either you choose, or one day you wake up and the village throws someone in there with you. Like, I got placed with this girl Natalie. But Effy and Chris decided to live together."
"Effy and Chris? Yeah. Chris is one of my best mates, and Effy's my-- Tony's sister. Her and Chris are like, dating or something, so they figured it'd be easier to live together, I guess."
"Oh, for fuck's sake, fucking-- fuck, I'm not the only person in the hallway."

She shook her head. "Oh, no. No choir that I know of. Tony was in choir back home, in Bristol. And I don't think there's football."

"The hotel! Actually, I'm on my way there now, if you want to come?"

I had a feeling that, at this point, I had the word loser written across my forehead.

Michelle smiled at him. "That's sweet. Thanks." She handed him half the pile. "Right, follow me."

"They're all friends of yours, I'm guessing?"
