Farewell Post - OTA

Jan 22, 2014 21:10

Artemis had been quiet since Destruction had left. Something about his absence made her angry, but there was no one to pin the anger on so she kept it quiet and close. The anger kept her distracted from the loneliness at least. She would not pine for him! The very thought made her stomach hurt ( Read more... )

I'm out of chicken. Or I was until I got some at the store. The reason I came out is currently sitting near the bench at my feet, eating a raw chicken leg. He isn't even being bothered by the cold, which I figured would happen. Bringing him along got him the chicken faster and also got him out of the room. He's been mad lately with the cold and not wanting to go out. I think he understood where we were going, but I did tell him in Quenya and he's always responded better to that.

I see Lady Artemis coming and stand. Olore looks up for a moment, then turns back to his food.

Olore has a black harness on and Faramir is holding a leash/lead.

Artemis smiled when she spotted Faramir, ever the ideal follower, and who she suspected was Olore. She raised a hand in familiar greeting until she was closer.

"Is it not too cold for feline paws tonight?" Artemis asked with humor and curiosity. "Or was the desire for meat greater?"

"It is quite cold for them, but he chose to come along. I told him where I was going--in Quenya--and he went to the door." I smile. "His name is in Quenya and he's always responded better when I speak it. He wanted his chicken badly enough to come along."

Chicken is his favourite, except for rabbit.

"The cold has been making him quite difficult so I'm glad he can get some energy worked off outside."

I'd like to think that Lady Artemis understands that he's not really being rude.

"How do you fare, my lady?"

"I am well enough," she said, and let Olore and his chicken dinner be. "Restless. I have a feeling about me, and it hangs heavy, so I am glad to have met with you tonight."

"I am always pleased to see you."

What would make a goddess restless?

"Do you feel that something is going to happen?" Perhaps the village is warning her of impending... whatever. I have no idea if it's done that before.

"No, nothing like that. I believe the village has been satisfied for the time being."

All that noise and ugliness a few weeks back had been rather annoying.

"I think my time here may be coming to an end."

"Oh." I did not expect to hear that, though perhaps I should have. "Some people do know before they leave."

Boromir did. Several friends have known.

"I am very glad to have seen you now. I will miss your honoured presence." I could easily see that a Greek version of me would follow her: it just seems natural.

"I will miss you as well, Faramir," she said with soft sincerity. "There are not many men back home with such stout heart and mind. You are a great man, whether your humbleness accepts it or not."

I bow.

"A number of people have had great faith in me. I can only honour them by trying my best to be the man they see, the man you see." To work hard and improve myself, perhaps even until I finally approve of myself. There is less doubt than there was, but still...

"Is there anything I can do for you?" I have no idea of what she might need.

Artemis smiled. "You would do well with more self-reflection, then you would see what we hold dear in you."

She shook her head. "I do not require anything. You have done your part already."

"Thank you, my lady."

I recall something that she should know.

"I will continue to do so. I already think of you when I hunt, it's just natural. I'm sure I'll continue to do so, perhaps for the rest of my life. There will be someone who honours you in Middle-earth."

Not that it's worth much, in a whole different world, but it's true.

Artemis smiled brightly. His words meant a fair amount to her. "That is the most wonderful sentiment a follower could offer their goddess."

"As much my goddess as you can be." I do not worship exactly, we don't do that. But I honour her and respect the things she stands for. Even chastity, which I'll be practicing now that I'm on my own again.

"I will miss seeing you, and the peace of your temple, if the village decides to take it away." Would that it could remain.

"Perhaps it will remain. The wild things always need a sanctuary," she said, and grinned. "And those such as Olore, neither tame nor wild."

"He is his own person, I suppose. There's more to him than being an animal." The village did give him to me. "I don't think cats ever truly get tame. At least I've heard that said."

It could be true.

"I do not know what to say to you. I do not wish to say goodbye."

"You need not say it," she said gently. "I do not like goodbyes very much. Olore will look after you in my absence."
