Bored Old One [ota]

Illyria was growing quite tired of this place. Unfortunately, there was nothing she could do to remedy that situation. And there was only so much time she could spend conversing with the green before she found herself growing weary. Boredom was not a feeling she was accustomed to feeling in her old form, but it seemed to grace her with an ( Read more... )

I sometimes wish I had more friends in the village, or saw people I am friendly with more often. I do not think seeing the god-king again quite counts, but there she is. I bow to her as I approach.

"Lord Illyria. How fare you this day?" Some people it's safer to be formal with.

Illyria was definitely not someone you would consider friend. But she was fond of Faramir, so she nodded in greeting as he came closer.

"I am... weary." she looked around, "There is little for me to do here."

Not that there was much for her to do elsewhere either. But at least she might be able to do battle with something.

"I am sorry for that. Obviously the village has not seen fit to provide you with a temple." Not that it would have given her so much to do, but it would be something of her own and familiar.

"There seems much to do here to me, but I'm a simple man from a simple place and time. The goddess of Love can work her skill, the goddess of the Hunt can hunt, but there is nothing for you to rule over." Nothing worth the name, and the village needs no rule at any rate.

Illyria expression turned dark, not in anger at him, but because everything he was saying was true.

"This lack of purpose is frustrating." she agreed, "But employment is even less appealing."

"If the village has not given you a temple, why do you not make your own? That is far better than the village deciding you should have work that you would hate." It must count as work even if she makes her own temple. Not everyone is given a job--I went and got my own both times.

"There surely is space for it somewhere. I am not familiar with temples to gods, but perhaps you do not even need a building." Lady Artemis didn't, not entirely.

"Is there anyone with the ability to build stone structures...?" Illyria surely hadn't the ability in this form.

"I do not know. You might ask." I wonder...

"There is a Dwarf here from Middle-earth. I do not think he would know how, but his people are renowned for their skill at building in stone as well as smithing." He might know how, though not so much was built in his time.

"What is this Dwarf's name?" she asked, clearly interesting in seeking this person out. Not that she could pay them to building anything.

Perhaps she might threaten them instead...

"His name is Kili and he is of the royal line of Erebor. I do not think that he himself has experience with building but I know little of Dwarves--they do not even allow other races to learn their language."

They keep to themselves for things like that.

"He might know, or would know skilled stone work if he saw it." If someone in the village made a claim to skill, he'd know if it were true.

"I only just met him a few days ago."

"Perhaps I may seek him out." If she decided that she would build her own temple. Although there was something demeaning out seeking out that the temple be built rather than followers erecting it of their own accord.

"Considering the village, you will decide to make a temple and then it will finally provide you with one." Or it will wait until she makes one. "Regardless, people can then learn about you. I have heard no stories that mention your name."

Not like the other religions. The name Illyria is completely unknown in any of the things I have looked at. There is no information about her at the library.

"There are texts about Old Ones." she remembered them from Fred's memories, "But human writings on me are few for I was gone long before they knew how to form words let alone letters."

"That might be another reason there is not yet a temple for you here--those from Earth are mostly human and would no more have heard of you than I."

Is it as simple as that?

"The church has a library. The regular library has nothing about you, but the church library has many different things, from different worlds. It might be there is information about you there." If from different worlds, why not the very ancient Earth too? "I can ask Chuck about it, for whatever good it will do."

People can hear of her. Perhaps a display at the library--and how ridiculous as that? We could have them for all different worlds, times, and places.

She was interested, yes, but at the same time it felt hardly worth the effort. Was she really anything worth worshiping in her current state? Perhaps she should first find a way to return to her true form...

"I can go to the church on my own." she assured him. Illyria didn't want to walk into a church, mostly full of followers of Yahweh, but it wasn't an unthinkable action to get information that might be useful.

"Of course, Lord Illyria." I thought it might be easier since I already know Chuck, but it doesn't really matter.

"Is there anything here in the village that you think might assist you right now?"

"I..." she frowned. Illyria just felt lost. And she wished Wesley were here and hated that she wanted that so badly. "I am unsure. I do not believe so."
