The Ribbon smelled of beef stew, and warm bread. Kerai put a pot of crocuses on the table, and fussed a little with it's placement, wanting deeply to honor the one who was coming.

She wiped her hands on a towel, and smiled at her own nerves. She went back into the main room, resolved to wait calmly for her visitor.

Kerai wanted to see me, and now seems like a fine time. She said she had news, though she also said that she was well so I'm thinking it's good news. When I arrive at the Ribbon, it certainly seems welcoming (though it always does) and I do think it will be something good. Perhaps the stew could be for comfort, but the flowers are a little joy.

"I came as soon as I could, like my message said." She seems a bit nervous, but I don't know if good or bad. "You are looking well."

Not quite so thin as usual, not pinched.

"You know the largest of my news." It's a beginning while I take some of the stew. "Father came to speak to me. If nothing is changed back home, then I can remember this place and the things he said to me, the time we spent together."

Not a lot of it, but more than I hoped.

"I am also seeing someone, a lady. I met her at the holiday party and we have seen each other several times."

"I'm glad you had that. I'm sure it was healing." She cocked her head.

"A lady? Tell me all about her," Kerai took some stew of her own.

"You'll be glad to know I've passed through the 'if some seasoning is good, more should be even better' phase of following a recipe."

"I've eaten plenty of preserved meat. Generally, you may as well eat a stick of salt." In other words, I'll be fine.

"Her name is Penny and she comes from modern earth. Some of her friends from home are here, which she sees as a good thing--they are friends from home, after all." I do not really know what all to say. "She works as an actress and waitress back home, but has not really been here all that long. She may be studying while she's here."

Which seems like a good idea to me, as the village is a very good place to learn things, school-wise or not.

"I feel very comfortable with her, in a friendly way. I'm still awkward, of course, but she's open and friendly and that helps me a lot."

"An actress? I think that's an amazing talent. When we did the musical, I wouldn't have been able to do it without the Weave."

"I think it was having all the lines that made it simpler for me. Once I knew what I was going to say, it wasn't so strange to be the person I was supposed to be in the play." And I am good at learning by memory, so it seemed simple enough. "I don't think I'd do very good at something more complicated."

Not like I've seen in the movies on the television.

"I don't think I'd be good at pretending to have certain feelings; I need the Weave to actually feed me those feelings. I admire people that can."

"Well, in a way I've been on a stage my whole life. I'm used to having people look at me and expect to see me a certain way. I can do that." It was finding out what people expected from the character and acting that way.

"You have plenty of your own feelings about things that matter to you. That's much more important than putting on an acting face. It's part of what drew me to you, and Chuck as well, I'm sure." I can see more than what she was showing to most of the world, and it was beautiful.

"Chuck does not mind my being as part of your family? I know it wasn't me who..." Beat him quite badly. "I want to be part of your life and your child's, but not if there will be any hard feelings between you two."

"Faramir," Kerai puts a hand on his arm. "He knows besides him, you're all I have, and he doesn't hold what happened against you at all. He knows it wasn't you."

"I'm glad he knows. Even so, he might wish that I not be so close. He's a good man but there could well be jealousy in him. I know there is some in me, as much as I do not like it."

I was jealous of Buffy and John back on the island, jealous of how... free she was with him. Such things might be done in the modern world and it might not happen now if the situation were the same, but that was only a few months after I'd left home. I wasn't ready to know that the lady I cared for wanted to be close to another man.

"We need not speak more of that. Tell me about your learning to cook."

Possible fade? I'm leaving in the morning for NOLA. They can talk cooking and recipes.

"I had books, and they were helpful, but I had to learn not to get distracted, and that more seasoning isn't better, and Chuck ate everything and pretended it was good..."

[fade. Have a good vacation]
