It was as if some sort of switch was thrown. Xas had been walking down the sidewalk when the talking around him abruptly stopped. Too, he opened his mouth to speak and nothing came out

Jeremy looked startled to see Xas there but the smile was quick to spread on his lips. He pushed the Japanese origami book away before standing up and opening the window for Xas to enter his room.
He was about to say hello when he noticed he had no voice. Jeremy was wide-eyed when he looked back at Xas, hands going to his throat.
As he landed lightly on his feet, Jeremy smiled. He pulled Jeremy's hands from his throat, clasped between his. It was all right. There was no reason to be afraid.
He was still opening his mouth, still trying to speak but, as always, Xas and his touch sent this soothing calmness throughout Jeremy's body that the tension was slowly abating.
Jeremy looked up to meet Xas's eyes and then he squeezed his hands.
The questions were obvious on his face and Xas shook his head. He guided Jeremy to the bed to sit together, still holding his hands. He did not know why this was happening, but he wasn't bothered.
He was getting so very used to this. To feeling Xas touch him, kiss him, too.
Jeremy turned his head to bury his face on Xas's chest, smelling earth and snow and leaves. He took in a deep breath, and then wrapped his arms around him.
Smooth fingers stroked over Jeremy's head and the back of his neck, gentle. He would imagine that there were many people who would panic. For what? To not be able to talk?
Many, many things could be said - like Jeremy wanting to tell Xas about the books he got at the magic shelf in the bookstore that Lana showed him, or his conversation with David.
But, as he was being held and with such tenderness, too, those seemed to slip from Jeremy's mind. He breathed in deeply again, breathing out just as slowy, feeling quite content (and a lot calmer) there in Xas's arms.
Perhaps Xas had a skewed sense of time being immortal. But anything could wait (until it was too late. He was not immune to regret, after all). He gently kneaded the muscles in the back of Jeremy's neck.
The touch, the pressure of his gentle hands made Jeremy lift his shoulders higher, tensing, at first, before allowing the touch to stay, linger, move.
He relaxed into it, slowly, while his hands slowly moved to caress up and down Xas's back. Through his thin shirt Jeremy could feel the downy feathers, the scar left from where he lost his wings. Jeremy's hands lingered there.
Jeremy pulled back to smile reassuringly at Xas and then he was leaning in, closing the distance, placing a kiss on his lips that was fleetingly gently.
It was okay. He only wanted to touch much like Xas would touch him.
Jeremy cupped his face in his hands, not more touching the scars, and, he looked deep into Xas's eyes, his emotions vivid and there for his lover to see.

Once Jeremy sat he moved closer to Xas, his eyes closing, his head he leaned against the angel's shoulder, closing his eyes.
It was comforting there.

Words meant so little; an angel knew this. He smiled.

It was comfort offered, much like what Xas was doing for Jeremy - that was what he was trying to do, too.
It's okay, he wanted to say, but Jeremy tilted his head to place a gentle kiss on the side of Xas's neck.

Worship, he was used to. But rarely so sincerely meant.
