On a quest of her own [ota]

The narrow, barren path from the farm gave way to the more open and populated streets of the village. It was here that Gorgo moved with a leisurely gait while on a quest for fine fragrant oils she wished to acquire to tend to Maximus. Perhaps she would purchase a few other things, if anything else managed to catch her eye ( Read more... )

I've come to terms with much of the modern clothing and how much it can reveal. The garb of the woman in front of me is not modern at all... Not everyone dresses as modestly as we do. Even now my shirt comes to my wrists and buttons to my neck.

I do not know the lady, but she has a fine glow about her. Healthy, certainly, and spends much time out of doors. I nod my head in a greeting.

"My lady."

They would have to meet eventually. Faramir has more clothes than Dilios, fo' sho'.

When Gorgo looked up at the man with such polite greeting, she gasped, hand to her lips.

"Dilios?" She approached him quickly, though still with much grace befitting a Queen
"You are here - your eyes --"

Gorgo did not know where to begin, reaching out wanting to see if he was truly here.

[ooc: yay to finally meeting! :D]

I expected perhaps a polite greeting in return, but not this. She called me by a name... Yes, she must know someone who looks like me. It happened before.

"My lady, I am not who you think I am." The wanting to touch must be because she doesn't believe it, or the way I'm dressed, or something isn't quite right, beyond that I'm not Dilios and I do not know her.

Her hand hovered near him before she pulled it back, placed on her stomach where her child grew.

Gorgo stared, and knew not politely, but she seemed unable to stop herself. It would be a few deeply dragged breaths before she managed to regain her composure.

"If you are not Dilios of Sparta, then tell me who you are." Her head held higher, voice, though soft, had the tone and authority of a Queen.

There is no mistaking that gesture, or that this is a lady of substance. She needs no silk gown or jewels to tell me that.

"I am Faramir of Gondor, my lady. Captain Lord Faramir, second son of Denethor II, Twenty-sixth ruling Steward of Gondor." And I bow formally.

Gorgo gave him a nod, equally respectful.

"I am Gorgo, Queen of Sparta, wife to the late King Leonidas who fell in battle. Dilios was his soldier and trusted friend. He looks like you, Captain Lord Faramir. Please pardon my mistake, for you and he appear one and the same." Save for how they were dressed, of course.

"I feel for your loss, Majesty. Not in my time, but my brother was here after he fell in battle, this some five years in my future." It's always hard to think of, though it's how he would have wished it.

"Your mistake is forgiven, certainly. I've not met anyone who looks like me but was once mistaken for someone else before this." The names do not mean much to me. "I have heard of Sparta. Your warriors are fierce in legend."

I shake my head.

"Gondor is not on the world called Earth, so there is still much I do not know of its history. I consider it an honour to meet you."

"I am honored to meet you as well, Captain Lord Faramir. Your resemblance to Dilios had brought back the memory of the last time I had seen him. It was prior to finding myself here in this place after he had told me of how my King fell in battle."

Gorgo looked down at her hand on her stomach, shaking her head slowly. "But my King is not here. He is in Elysium where he awaits my time, when it is time. I am the only one from Sparta that I know of which was why I was so startled in seeing you with the thought that you were ... a friend from my time. Does that happen often here?"

"I have heard of Elysium also, a fine place for a reunion--when it is time." I wonder if Boromir will be in the Halls of Mandos or if he will have gone on and we will see him later.

"I have met several who have the same face, including my closest friend. I met him here and two who look like him. Duchess Polgara and Glaurnaneth also looked alike, to a point. Glaurnaneth was gold--but they had the same face." I try not to think of everything else, considering Glaurnaneth's complete lack of clothing. "I could not say how many others I've met with faces I knew, but they are many. I have been here for some time."

"This place is full of wonder," Gorgo mused. "I cannot and perhaps will not understand it."

She gave him a smile. "I have not been here for very long and yet I seemed to have settled to a life here." A simple one. A quiet one. A happy one. It would have shown on how serene her expression was now, after the startling discovery of someone who looked like one she knew.

"I am married now, by Aphrodite herself, and I carry my husband's child." Her thoughts turned to Maximus and their life here. "So different from where I came from. Do you find yourself in such a state, Captain?"

"I have settled and am content, though I do not have a lady now. My lord father is here."

I smile.

"I have met the Lady Aphrodite and her sister Lady Artemis. I had a child, a son, with Glaurnaneth." I am slightly red. "She... her kind do not marry, and she has been gone for some time now. My brother married here and had a son also."

He has been gone long too.

"It is a different sort of place and there is always something new, but some things I will miss much. Like the hot water without having to heat it."

To his last statement, Gorgo laughed softly. "This place does provide plenty of conveniences," she agreed. "Running water and not from a well alone is enough for me to miss this place, shall it chose to release me."

A thought that saddened and worried her immensely.

"I am sorry that you have to go through this world with losses, but then losses are a part of life. It may not please us or those left behind but such is the will of the Gods sometimes." Gorgo gave the Captain a small smile. "As such I live as most I can in this moment. That is all I can do, and the moment provides such happiness, I shall not think of the alternative." Of being taken from here and leaving Maximus behind.

"I would have more men than I could house if my command boasted hot water such as the village provides. Here I am no soldier--I run the library." It suits me better. "I train nearly every day against being sent home, but I am content to remain here and learn new things until the village chooses to send me back."

Though I'm sure I could go if I wished; absolutely certain.

"Some I know I will see again and some I will not. I cannot help but feel there is more for me here, no matter how long I've stayed."

These were words that seemed to reach deeply at Gorgo. She was nodding her head sagely as Faramir spoke.

"That is how I feel at this time as well. That a life here is richer, more fulfilling. If I only had my son then it shall be a life that I wouldn't have thought I'd be blessed by the Gods with. Especially after the Queen has lost her King." And the love that came with it.

"Here, I have Maximus and our child and the farm to look after."

"Maximus? I did not realise it was he who was your husband." Though perhaps I should have guessed. Were I from Earth I might have. "A good man, who will be a good father I think. I have great respect for the farmers. Without them, none of us could lead the lives we do."

It is a solid life, hard but honest.

"I have a list for him of things that grow in the wild that are now ready to harvest, though likely he is busy enough. That is a blessing too."

"Maximus and I were recently bound by the Goddess," Gorgo confirmed with a smile. ""He is an honorable man. I have no doubt he would be a good father as he is a good husband, a good farmer and a good soldier." She held great pride for her husband.

"The farm keeps him busy, his hands, and most of his person, always covered in dirt. It is everything he ever wanted." This, he told her long before the love they had for each other had grown. "But I shall remind him of your list. I make sure the store is stocked and everything is fresh. It would be interesting to bring those to the store - things not quite found on the farm."
