Funny, Richard Castle didn't remember going to Europe.
In fact, the last thing he remembered was falling into his bed exhausted after a particularly trying case. Ethan Slaughter had nearly run him ragged and he had to call in Beckett to help save the case and prevent an innocent man from going to jail. Lesson learned: not every cop is Kate Beckett. It was unfortunate.
When he opened his eyes, he was standing in the middle of a quaint-looking village that reminded him of the countryside in France. But how could he possibly have gotten to France this fast? And what reason did he have for going?
Castle was good at escaping. He'd run away to the Hamptons to avoid dealing with his feelings for Beckett how many times now? Probably too many. His relationship with Kate right now was tenuous at best. They weren't fighting anymore, but he was keeping his distance. Still, Europe was a bit far to go, especially so suddenly.
Maybe this was a dream. He pinched himself but nothing changed about the cobblestone road spread in front of him. Castle tried the cell phone in his pocket but it was completely dead.
Decision time: ask for help and potentially sound like a crazy person or pretend he knows exactly what's going on and remain completely confused?
