One week. Just one week had passed since Claire had found all of Galen's things gone and yet somehow it felt longer than that. Every hour was agonizing to her and she was tired of trying to will each minute to go by just a bit faster in the hope that maybe she would feel better in the next one. That the tightness in her chest would finally ease so she could breathe just a little easier than before but she wasn't so lucky. Every night was a struggle; it was a struggle to put Ben down to sleep and to deal with his questions about where his dad was but it was also a struggle just to go to bed alone.
She struggled with the moments of actually hating Galen for making her fall in love with him and then getting sent back home but most of the time she just found herself wishing that he would come back.
After leaving Ben with Adam and Peter, Claire decided to go out just so she didn't have to sit alone in a room filled with ghosts and memories. She was considering asking for a new room but that wouldn't help. Nothing would help right now. She didn't know how to heal from this kind of thing. Hurt her, break her, doing just about anything physically and she was fine a second later but not this. She didn't do well with healing emotionally. That just wasn't who she was.
Tugging her jacket around her, she blew out a breath as she tried to figure out where to go. She found herself actually wishing for the Haitian in that moment, just so he could block out her power. Then she could get blissfully mind numbingly drunk without a lot of problem but there would be none of that. Not for long though.
Still, she found herself in In & Out a short while later, standing at a table all by herself as she studied a line of shots in front of her. It was more than enough for a handful of people but Claire seemed determined to down each shot by herself. So that's what she started doing, snagging one shot, tossing it back, slamming it down and then moving on. Maybe if she drank really fast she would feel some kind of buzz.
