Errands for a pregnant wife (ota)

Nov 11, 2011 23:16

It was a challenge, sometimes, to find all the necessary requirements one's wife might have when one's wife was pregnant. Marian's cravings had gone from apples of all sorts now to pears. Pears and hot sauce - a combination which Robin did not even begin to pretend to understand. Thankfully the grocery store was open when he stopped buy to pick up ( Read more... )

Chicken. My cat needs food and somehow I cooked his dinner for my own without realising... So now I am fetching him some raw chicken. Not that he wouldn't eat the cooked, if he wished it.

Why did I want a cat?

Regardless, I am surprised to see Lord Robin in the store as well, with an odd combination of foods.

"Robin, it is good to see you." Surprising, but good. "What are you looking at?"

Something on the shelf?

He turned when he heard Faramir and offered him a friendly smile.

"I'm afraid it is what I am not looking at that is the problem. Marian has run out of hot sauce and so, it seems, has the shop."

"Hot sauce?" What a strange thing for a lady to want. "Can you make some?"

That might work, depending upon what kind of hot sauce she wants.

It wasn't a bad suggestion, but Robin was at a loss. "I would not know where to begin to make some, I'm afraid."

"It depends upon what kind she likes. The changeable restaurant was once from a city called New Orleans. I know how to make a sauce for seafood now with the tomato ketchup, horseradish, and lemon juice." That was likely not what she wanted, but it was a hot sauce.

"You might be able to get hot sauce from the cafe. They have it for people who get some special kinds of eggs." It would mean another stop somewhere.

"It seems a bit late--is your lady unwell that she would need such a thing?" It could be used if she had a cold. I can't see her being that particular about her food.

"The cafe is a good idea. I'm unsure Marian would want to venture a taste at anything I might prepare myself." If Much was around, it was possible that he might be able to conjure something that tasted similar. Robin's talents in cooking started and ended with roasting rabbit and other game from the forest.

"Marian is well." He smiled. It was a warm smile and the kind only a proud father-to-be would have. "She's with child, in fact."

"The cafe or the hotel restaurant." Since the hotel is always open, someone can always get to the kitchen. But...

"With child? Your union is truly blessed," I am holding my hand out in the modern fashion. "Congratulations to both of you."

He took the offered hand, but didn't shake it like they did in present day. He grabbed hold of Faramir's wrist and shook it - a greeting much more familiar to Robin than the other.

"Thank you. I hadn't thought it would come so soon, but it is, indeed, a blessing." He was still beaming. "There is not much more I am in want for now."

"No. Children are the greatest gift, after the love of your lady itself." That love is what brings the children.

"There will be a time when you want sleep, but for now it's your lady who wants." Hot sauce? Did Glaurnaneth want odd things during her... two weeks?

He nodded. "At the beginning it was apples and now it seems it's pears and hot sauce. A combination I admit to not understanding myself." He had even tried it in secret and did not find the two together appealing at all.

"Pears and hot sauce?" I do not blame him for not understanding: I certainly do not. "I might acknowledge pears with a lot of cinnamon, which would be spicy."

Hot sauce?

"Certainly between the cafe and the restaurant you'll be able to find it. I wish you luck in your quest." Odd as it is. "Congratulations again to the both of you."

"You've given me good advice. I would not have thought to look there so readily." He had been distracted by the thought of a very unhappy and hungry Marian.

"Thank you, Faramir." He smiled.

"You are most welcome--be well." The both of them. Or three.

"And you as well." Robin gave Faramir a nod and then departed. He hoped procuring the hot sauce wouldn't take too long.
