At ten to seven the lights in the main halls flashed, and people hurried to their seats as the lights in the auditorium went down. Behind the curtain, everyone was waiting silently in their places. then the curtain came up, the lights came up, the music started and the spectacle had begun ( Read more... )

I did not feel that this was so formal that I should wear the entire suit that Draco helped me buy but he worked so to get the colour of the shirt just perfect that I've chosen to wear that with nicer trousers and the modern dress shoes. I have no boots that would work.

It's strange, again, to be an escort to a lady in the performance, but I can watch it on my own and meet her easily enough after. It is... The gala did not prepare me for an entire performance like this. I can only wonder how it would all be if the house was full of people anticipating this sort of thing.

I wonder why it needed to be so sad at the end. I have a lot to think about, but now I need to go meet Meg.

"That was incredible. It seemed quite well done to me as well."

Pardon. I do not consciously know this opera (I may well have heard bits, but I couldn't say.) I'm too tired and my eyes burn (allergies) to go watching right now. Allergies suk.

She was out of her costume by now, not having been in the final scenes.

"It was rather good, wasn't it? A very nice start to the run."

[[ooc: it's okay. I watched a bit of it, I read the synopsis, and I'm calling that good enough. You're entitled to be even vaguer than I've been, and I think I started out vague... :) ]]

"I enjoyed it, and me not knowing a thing at all about any sort of opera except what little you've told me." And that was mostly in describing the opera house itself. "It was pleasant being able to see you dance again. You are very graceful."

They all are--that sort of dancing looks like it would be difficult.

"You all should be pleased."

"Thank you, Faramir." She looked pleased, certainly.

"Shall we wander to the hall?"

Chris was thrilled with the way things were going. He was dressed up in a fun suit and was ready to mingle with the crowd. He was proud of the work everyone had put in and that people seemed thrilled with the show. Chris was now looking for something to drink and someone to talk to.

Meg, of course, had called him up on stage after the curtain call, and had presented him with a flower to wear in his lapel, from the cast. She'd given him the usual French two cheek kisses along with it, but had then hurried off to see Faramir shortly thereafter.

Now, in the hall, she was momentarily without Faramir (he'd gone to get them drinks) and so she walked the few paces over to him, to discuss the show.

"It went very well, I think. A good note for opening night." She didn't subscribe to the superstition that a good opening night meant a bad run and vice versa.

Opera had not been in existence yet--not truly--when Kit last trod the stage, but theater was theater, acting was acting, and since the music and dancing were taken care of, Kit was able to focus on what he'd always done best. Drama. He'd managed his way around the new conventions--not the least of which was including women on the stage playing themselves instead of being played by boys. And for all that he hadn't performed this time, he felt his heart swell in a familiar sort of awe and glee at the applause that greeted the curtain call.

In the entrance hall, he let his gaze sweep over those that lingered, pleasure radiating from him like from a well-stroked cat. It wasn't perfect, given the shadow that lingered in his heart and the empty space by his side, but it was good, and good was something that had been rare these last few months.

He'd take it.

[[mind if we do a three-way with Faramir as well? If yes, assume he's beside/following her during the below and I'll ping Bell, and then we can continue on Meg-Kit-Faramir?]]

"Kit! I didn't have much time to talk to you at all, yet - But I wanted to to welcome you to the family, so to speak." She smiled widely. "The opening night of your first show here... and it went well."

Kit returned her smile, leaning to kiss her cheek. "It went very well. You all were marvelous, all I could have hoped for." He gave her companion a smile, as well, full of good will and good cheer for everyone. "I don't believe we've met. I'm Kit Marley."

It was as good a name as anyone's and he was vaguely put out at his birth name not being recognized these days.

[three-way's fine!]

I know the cheek kissing is a formal greeting--my uncle and cousins kiss--so I'm not terribly surprised by it. He appears full of success, as he should be.

"My name is Faramir of Gondor," I respond, holding out a hand to shake. "Congratulations to you. I not only enjoyed the performance very much but am now very curious for the next so that I can compare."

Not to rush anything.

"Though I don't suppose a rest after this would be too much for you to ask. We have nothing like this at home."

It's been years since he's been on a date with a woman, and Edward is nervous, adjusting the collar of his dress shirt and the tails of his tuxedo as he taps on the door of Anne's room. But this is a good thing: he needs to get out more and she's good for him.

Anne opened the door slowly and smiled when she saw him. She was wearing one of her dresses from home, this one perhaps a bit more ornate than usual.

"Hello!" she said brightly.

He might blink on seeing her: she's dazzling and the gown is very striking. "Hello, Anne," he says, finally finding his voice, and smiling that odd, fey smile of his. "Are you ready to go?"

She nodded. "Yes, I am." She extended her hand for him to kiss--it wasn't a gesture of vanity, just something she was used to from back home.
