Kurt Hummel wasn't quite sure how he felt about having a peacock following him around school. On one hand, it was really kind of cool. On the other, he didn't like being outshone. On another (oh, forget the metaphor, or pretend to be a Hindi goddess), he felt sort of guilty about his hat with the peacock feather in it (though he'd totally worn it

Well, how could he not? Beside the brilliant plumage of the bird he is himself wearing a feather in his hat, for one, and it's a boy, a young man, rather, with a male daemon. I do not know much about it, but Lyra said enough that I know it's rare.
"Eru, that's unexpected." It's not as large as my own follower, but big enough.
An odd time to meet, but Opposite plot got in the way.

"I'll say," he said, casting a look over his shoulder and then giving the man there a quizzical sort of look. He didn't look like the sort to be hanging around the school much.
Works for me.

"Pardon me, I did not mean to be rude. I came because my lord father asked me to pick up some papers he wished to go through." I am holding them even now. "He will be returning to his work soon and does not wish to be unprepared."
That is my reason for being here.
"Your fellow is far more brilliantly coloured than my lady, yet they are neither of them likely to go unnoticed." We didn't choose these things. I half-bow to cover my earlier impoliteness.
"I am Faramir and this is Feawil."

"He certainly does stand out. But so does she, you're right." The name is familiar, and Kurt brightens. "You're Draco's friend, right? I'm Kurt. This is Raoul," he adds with a wave at the peacock.

"It is good to meet you. I am sorry I did not call earlier, but the village's... prank before..." I can't exactly smile. "It was rather disruptive."
I feel foolish.
"Well, you know that, with Lord... Principal Denethor being gone for a while." I can only hope the students don't know why.
"Do you have a moment? If not, I understand. It's not as though we set a meeting."

"It's okay. That was sort of wild, and I figured something came up." He had absolutely no idea why the principal wasn't around, but then, he didn't pay that much attention to the teacher's lives outside of Mr. Schuester and Mr. Monroe. "And sure. I have time. I don't have anywhere I have to be."

Eru, what will father say? Well, I'm not likely to be asked to sit and speak with him, just delivering papers.
"I'm glad to be a ranger, and twice as glad it's not winter. I can stay outside with her while she's here." Kurt is well-spoken.
"How did you meet Draco, if you don't mind my asking?" Not at the school, and not at Draco's work, so where? He's always so busy.

"I actually met him right when I arrived, almost a year ago, now. He gave me some clothes until I could get some of my own, and took me to the club to meet his performers, and then hired me to help him with the summer music festival." Kurt shrugged a little. "I'm a performer, too, so that was something we had in common."

Sometimes I do not understand Draco. That is likely for the best.
"He helped me with my clothing once, during another of the village's games." He made my own clothing fit the female version of myself.
They don't seem very surprised at the cafe, not about the followers or that we sit outside. I order juice and Kurt can have whatever he wishes.
"I'm surprised he has time to stop and breathe. I keep busy, but not as much as Draco." I nod. "I spent a little time at the festival."

"He is very busy, yes. I mean, I like to be busy, but he sort of takes it above and beyond." He hesitates a moment more then asks, "What...was he worried about me being younger about?"
Reply
"He feels that his experiences make him older than his years. I don't know entirely the scope, but I do understand what he means." I half smile. "At sixteen, I was ordered to the rangers. War does make you feel older very fast."
Draco's war was different, but he was younger when it began for him.
"I'm not sure of the wording, as I am not Draco, but I think he simply does not wish for you to understand that darkness. You cannot go back to being a child once that innocence is lost." Then I do have to smile. "Unless the village does it for you. It turned me seven years old."

"I get that," he says with a bit of a nod. "I mean, my world is a lot different than his, and obviously, than yours. I haven't been through anything like what he has. I know my dad's sheltered me from a lot of bad in the world."
He frowns a bit, glancing down at his soda. "I just want to be his friend." Well, that was a lie, but he didn't expect anything to come of his crush, hadn't ever gotten any sense that Draco was interested.

"That is not the impression that Draco had. But, yes, I can understand." I want to get the words right.
"This is awkward for me, as such things are not spoken of where I come from. But Draco was wed here, to another man, and it is not for me to judge what others choose." Their worlds and ways are different. "To me, his past is greater than the differences in your age. I cannot blame him for wishing to keep you sheltered--not Draco, nor your father."
I smile and hope I am encouraging.
"I do imagine that you are friends already, if he allowed you to help with his project. As to anything else, no age or experience can push that." I know it. "Such things just happen, though my history is limited. Certainly things happen unlooked for."
They just do. Draco might end up surprised.

He learned a really hard lesson with Finn, but he learned it.
He smiles back at Faramir. "I know about his marriage--he was still married when we met. And, yes, we are...friends. It's a bit awkward for me, too, but...I guess what you mean about the impression he had...he knows I..." Kurt stumbles a bit on the words, his soda suddenly very interesting again. "Like him more than that?"

"I never intended to...push, or to ask for more from him. I mean...I never even really wanted him to know. All I wanted was to be his friend. I mean...obviously, I feel more, but...I've never expected anything in return."
He was sort of used to the unrequited thing. "What I'm saying is, I can do the being a friend thing."
