When I wake up I feel odd. For one horrible moment I wonder if I'm changed again. I find that the answer is yes, but... it is not like before. I am drawn upward

There is another bird, a much smaller one, dusky in color, with a tail as long as it's body, sporting two wide curved feathers, that make the tail look like a lyre. That's what gave the bird it's name, but the girl with the bird doesn't know that.
She does know that it can imitate nearly any sound it hears, and has seen people reach for cell phones that aren't ringing, kids look askance at video games they had turned off, from her new little friend's playfulness.
Said friend walks cheekily up to the huge eagle, and from it's much, much smaller body, comes a perfect imitation of an eagle's cry.
Kerai, the healing bruise a barely visible yellow tinge on her face, looks at Faramir unafraid.
"I think that means 'good greeting' in cheeky bird talk."
I saw her coming and simply could not move. I do not have the right to walk away, really. And Feawil is not acting as though there is danger, merely looking at the smaller bird when 'spoken' to.
"Kerai. This has affected you as well." I have never before seen a bird like the one she has. I've never seen a great eagle either, but I know the bird with me is not of the regular sort. I swallow heavily, noting her bruise.
"I must apologise for hurting you. Even though it was the village's doing, it was my hand."
I do not like to consider the other 'prank', especially not in those terms. On the island, we called them tricks. Ha. They failed to amuse me.
"She is. I would be intimidated were she not so comforting." Yes, that is contradictory, but true. "I've not seen a bird such as yours before. Is he of your world?"
"I've never seen such a bird, but his song..." She looks at 'Freddie', and says, "Ozzie", and the bird responds with the opening riff from 'Crazy Train'.
"I can only imagine." And I thought Olore could be disturbing. He can, but not that way.
"I'll be staying outside for a while. We do not need to be very close constantly, but I want to stay by her. It does not seem right to have her wait on the roof overnight." Even if it were midwinter I would stay out.
"It is part of me. Perhaps that is, in part, why she is so large. A hunting hawk could stay inside." Not Feawil. "I do prefer outdoors to in, so there's a sense to things being this way."
It is easy to speak with Kerai, though I still feel guilt to look upon her.
"How is Chuck? I cannot apologise enough that he is hurt."
"At the time, it seems so logical. I look back at the memory and know what he thought and felt, but I don't understand." It hurts. "The first time this happened was awful. The second... I knew at least what occurred when it was over, that it wasn't me, but I still remember like it was."
They were my memories at the time.
"He barely knows me. How do I make that right? Is there a way to make it right?"

Then she comes to him, and without invitation, hugs him.

"Thank you. I've been very afraid of that happening again as it did on the island." It did.

Psst, Kerai is going bald.

"That's a rather unusual birdsong, certainly." It may well have frightened a year off my life. "It suits, the uniqueness."
The bird's appearance is rather dramatic as well, in its way.
"I'm not sure about mine except for, well, the beak."

"You're young. That might explain it." I smile. "He is uniquely gifted."
Do not compliment me if you are not prepared to receive one.

"He's tricky. He can do a knock on the door perfectly. He had me going to answer it three times before I figured out that it was he."
