It's a walk in the park (mult-pup post, OTA)

It was such a pretty day, and Ramona couldn't think of a better way to spend it than doing absolutely nothing worthwhile. There was a small cluster of cherry trees in the park, the gnarled, arching branches loaded with blossoms nearly the same shade of pink as her hair, so dense that they all but obliterated the sky. Ramona stretched out on the ( Read more... )

Kyla was on her way to the forest with her dogs - Ginger, a red Siberian Husky, and a Ripper, a mostly Bullstaff mix - in order to do some training. She didn't want Ginger or Ripper, or even herself, to get rusty here in a place where there was no war - save for the occasional dragon, it seemed. Because she was on her way to train, she had her side arm strapped to the side of her right thigh and her sniper rifle slung over her back. She had never heard of 'blanks' before, but the employee at the shooting range had suggested them to her if she was planning of shooting out in public, so she had bought some.

She took the park as a shortcut, but when she saw the man who was not only dressed in a way she never knew before, but using weapons she was unfamiliar with. Kyla changed directions, Ginger and Ripper obediently following suit.

"What is that?" Kyla nodded in his direction with her eyes on the wooden sword.

(ooc: I'm assuming he's dressed medievally? If not, I can retag or just ignore the strangely dressed comment)

That made her feel like a complete loser, but she hid it well. Instead, Kyla smiled awkwardly.

"I'm sort of... caught off from a lot of stuff. I guess it's called pop culture." She heard someone use that term once.

She shrugged. "I just feel bad about asking so many questions most of the time." Kyla felt like she was a toddler to a new world sometimes. She didn't like the feeling.

"Oh, I know what you mean. My, ah, girlfriend," Even that was an odd term to him, "is always having to explain things like that to me. My time is, as best as I can tell, what most around here term medieval. Swords and knights, armor and dragons--all sorts of things most people, if they've even heard of them, think aren't real."

"I know what knights are." She smiled at the familiar word. "My mom sometimes calls my dad that when she thinks no one is listening.. but I always thought knights carried guns."

Kyla offered Alastair a meek expression at her admittance. It was a little embarrassing how naive she apparently was. She was understanding a little more why her father worried about their future.

"Well, I don't see why they couldn't," Alistair allowed with a chuckle. "All the ones I know use swords, but then again we don't have guns."

"I can see the draw of swords." Kyla always preferred hand-to-hand training than most of it, though she did like the discipline and skill of sniping.

"But they'd be useless in my world considering who the enemy is."

"May I ask who the enemy is?" he replied, curiously, bending down to scoop up a scrap of a rag and rub it across the blade of his sword.

Kyla hesitated for a moment, her eyes glancing off in another direction briefly before she looked back at the man. "Do you know what robots are?"
