Mother's Worst Nightmare (Arrival - OTA)

Mar 17, 2011 21:25

(ooc: timed to early Friday morning)She would never be able to explain the sickening feeling that rushed through her when she heard the television on downstairs. John would have never left it on, but maybe this time he had. She hoped to God he had. Mary's muscles were tense as she walked down the stairs. A sharp, intense pang of panic hit her like ( Read more... )

I am going out to practice with my swords at the tree. I use different ones now, testing those I have made for father's students--my students, I suppose. Would that I had my bow instead, as a woman suddenly appears. Something about her besides state of undress tells me it is more than the arrival that upsets her.

"My lady!" I call out, moving slowly toward her, looking everywhere to see if she might be followed. "My lady, are you in trouble?"

I hope she does not think I am insane dressed as I am. The only real weapon I have is in my boot.

Her mind was reeling and a particular type of dread was beginning to rise in her body. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to think, when she heard someone speak out.

Mary spun around. Her eyes quickly took in what she could of the man in front of her. He was strangely dressed and she didn't know him.

She gathered up all her fear and anxiety and buried it under a threateningly calm look. "What have you done with my family?"

"Nothing my lady." I look at her as calmly as I can and stop moving toward her, setting the wooden practice swords on the ground and putting my hands to the side so she can see them.

"My name is Faramir and I have done nothing to your family. Some time ago I was brought to this place even as you just were, as many of us are." I need to keep it simply.

"It is nearly spring and morning is coming, as you can see. It is too cold for you to be outside as you are--may I offer you my cloak? And answers to your questions, also."

"No. Thank you." She was smart enough to take a cloak from a stranger, especially one that seemed odd not only in appearance, but in speech. Her parents had raised no fool.

"But I would like to know where I am and how I came to be here." There was a sinking feeling developing further in Mary's belly. If this guy was telling the truth, then were her boys? Where was John?

She doubts. I'd say I would too except that when I arrived I was too far from anything to care. That and the kitten in the pocket of Sophie's coat made it rather obvious that she intended no harm. I had no choice, really. This woman does, for a time ( ... )

Mary tried to take all of the information in at once and process it. While she wasn't entirely trustful, he instincts were telling her that this guy was telling the truth. Or, at the very least, he believed what he was saying.

If she understood him correctly, she was stuck in a place that wasn't her home, and certainly not Kansas, and wherever she was, she couldn't leave. Mary didn't like any of this at all.

"If you were brought here. And I was. Does that mean other people I know could be brought here too?"

"Yes. My brother was here for a time and my father is here now." That is another natural worry--for family and friends. "If you ask at the hotel desk, they might tell you, else you can look for their names in the directory at the hotel."

I'm still no closer than I was before and my wooden weapons are not in hand.

"I can tell you where it is if you do not wish me to guide you there." I turn slightly. "It is where I came from, in fact."

Mary considered his offer. The fact that her family could be here as well made her want to go to the hotel immediately. If it was a trap, though, she'd rather have the guy responsible close by.

She nodded. "Alright.. you can lead the way."

"Very well." I nod politely and pick up my weapons again before turning to go back to the hotel. "It is not far-you can see the top of it over the other buildings already."

It goes against training to allow her behind me this way. It is rude to treat a lady so and, militarily, I really don't know who or what she is and what she might be capable of. The form certainly doesn't mean she is what she appears to be and, even so, she could do damage if she needed to. On a positive note, I really don't see any weapons there.

"My name is Faramir." I mentioned it before but I was giving out other information as well. Best to give my name again.

While Faramir might have been comfortable with leading, Mary was not. She made sure to pick up her pace until she was walking beside him. People always felt safer when they were behind a person, but Mary felt more comfortable being able to see a person's hands and face.

"My name is Mary. Mary Winchester."

"Winchester?" I almost stop but don't, not when she is keeping pace. "I have met several here with that name. They may well be family to you."

I hope that is good news. Although when I consider what I know of Dean and Sam, perhaps it isn't. With what they do I suppose it could make sense that Mary is equally cautious.

"Their names will be in the register." And the hotel is right in front of us now. "As will yours. That happens here--there was a room waiting for me when I arrived and some of my own things were in it."

Faramir might not have stopped, but Mary did. She stopped though, in such a way, that put her slightly in front of Faramir in the hopes he would stop too.

"Do you know their names?" She felt a rush of an unknowable feeling hit her gut.

"Yes. Their names are Dean and Sam and they are brothers." I stop to look at her. "Are they your family?"

That could be good, from what little I know. But considering their lives at home it may be bad. She could also be from past or future.

"I have not seen them in some time but I believe they are still here. The register will have their names." Now if she wishes to cause harm, that is something else.

She sucked in a quiet breath, then nodded. She felt her body go a little numb and Mary felt the urge to go to the hotel even stronger now. She turned and started to walk again.

"...They're my sons."

It's surprising to hear, even though I know about different times and all.

"You could not be old enough to have children their age. It happens that people arrive from different times as well as places." I try not to get ahead or fall behind. It seems there is some good news. Well, interesting news.

"There is another here--I think he is still here--who looks just like Dean, only a bit younger. His name is Alec." Not that she will know what the grown Dean looks like. I'm such a fool.

Mary was trying to to let Faramir's words bother her and she hid it rather well, but they did. What did he mean by 'children their age'? And who was Alec?

If anything, it caused Mary's feet to move faster. She needed to see them. Now.
