Coming out of Retirement [ota]

Chuck had just been minding his own business, grabbing a bite to eat at the Mexican place before heading home, when it hit him. It was something he hadn't felt since he'd arrived in the village. The wave of nausea first, followed by a dull ache. Then it started to get worse.

He wasn't in the consistently intoxicated state that had tempered the pain ( Read more... )

In truth, I imagined I'd see Chuck more often, considering that he and Kerai live right across the hall from me. Normally I would be pleased to meet him by accident--truly--but not like this.

"Chuck, what happened?" He looks terrible though I cannot see any injury. No one is around, but he... fell.

Chuck groaned, peering up at him from the ground, "I need to..." he shut his eyes and brought he hand to pinch the bridge of his nose, "hurts. Get to my room... just need..."

"All right. I can do that." He is large but not too large. "Can you walk at all?"

I can carry him if I have to, but it will not be as quick as if he can help me.

Farging notifs or lack thereof.

"I.. yeah. I can walk." he got to his feet and started to walk, trying to ignore the pain.

I move to his side.

"Lean. We'll get there faster for one. If Kerai is not there then I can contact her as soon as we know." We won't be very fast, but better than Chuck walking on his own, and that's if he doesn't fall again.

"What hurts so bad? Is it anything I can help with?"

"I'm having the beginnings of a vision." he explained, leaning against Faramir, "Nothing you can do really... have to just get to sleep. Let it pass."

Valar, I think I understand. At least, I always feel somewhat ill after my dreams and they can be nothing like what he must feel.

"Alright. To your room, then." We might not be going terribly fast, but we're in the right direction and he won't fall with me here.

"Do you expect Kerai to be there?" I do not want to talk much, but some things are important. "Is sleep all you'll need? A healer?"

"I-I don't know. She might still be a work..." Chuck wasn't even sure what time it was right now.

"Don't worry about that. I will send her a message if she's not there." We'll know soon enough.

I wish I could do more but I cannot. At least he will be someplace safe and known and will be able to get rest and any help there is to be had. I hope Kerai will know what that might be.

"We're here."

Chuck entered the room and didn't see Kerai, that made him feel even more desperate. He stumbled to the kitchen, straight for the liquor cabinet. Time for a little self-medication. Okay, more than a little.

I see what he's doing and it's not going to bed.

"Sit down. I'll get you something that isn't enough to kill you and send Kerai a message. You need to rest, not get broken glass all over the floor." I hope they have a cup that isn't breakable because I refuse to give him a bottle. Not only could that break easily but if there's too much in it he could kill himself before he passed out.

No.

I get something and send Kerai a message. An urgent one.

Chuck turned back to glare at him, the pain in his head making him irritable, "I'm not a child."

And this was far from the first time he'd drank until he passed out. It was the only way he'd found to temper the pain of the visions and he didn't like being judged about it. Faramir didn't understand. No one understood.

"Far from one. You won't mean to drink enough to kill yourself but you might." I'm hoping I do not need to add Kerai's name to this equation.

"Start with this while I message your lady." I wonder... "Have you ever tried any of the magic potions? There is something to make you sleep and not dream and things for pain too. That might even help."

My own visions are so small and nothing like his.

"I would sort of have to dream, or the headache won't let up. The visions get what the visions want. But I don't know... maybe another sort of sleeping potion would work." Chuck shrugged.

"I did not know you had them when you dreamt." Some people have visions awake. "A pain potion might help. I can call Draco if you wish. Have you tried magic before?"

It might help, but they are two different magics.

"No, magic where I'm from tends to come from... shady people. I've avoided it." he snatched the bottle of liquor and headed to the couch, despite Faramir's earlier judgment. Old habits and all that, "I guess it's worth a try..."
