in which velma explores [[ota]]

Well isn't this place quaint? Only appearances can be deceiving and Velma knows a thing or two about that. So far she's counted a whore house and a burlesque club that ain't servin' up choir girls. She wonders what else there is but keeps that place, The Sin, in the back of her mind. She could use a few extra bucks on the side, not that Draco wasn' ( Read more... )

My work day is over and I am simply walking through the streets, feeling the change of seasons coming as I have every year practically since I became a ranger. For one brief moment I think the woman ahead is Tabitha. She has something about her... but it is not. I'm not sure if I am disappointed, as perhaps I shall see Meg again and she is far less complicated.

"Good day, my lady," I greet her with a polite nod. Is her clothing different from most? She truly does have a different air from most here.

He is wearing modern clothes, except for the Elven cloak/brooch and has a knife in his right boot.

She's not used to people just talking to her on the street, and Velma awkwardly stops, not sure if she's supposed to keep a conversation going or not. This place is a far cry from the Chicago streets.

Somewhere, she pulls up the rules on being polite.

"Afternoon," she says, waiting for whatever else he wants to say.

I hadn't really expected her to stop, at least not like that. Some will, as I usually do. She is obviously not used to being so addressed and I worry that I have made her uncomfortable. I cannot even blame that on being here, as I've always done it. Everyone in Gondor knows me, or at least everyone in Minas Tirith, so my stopping to talk is not at all unusual.

"Pardon me, I did not mean to alarm you." At least I can keep from blushing though I am terribly embarrassed. "Even before coming to the village it was habit to speak to people."

She might have a familiar air, but not a known face.

"Are you new to this place? My name is Faramir and I apologise again for disturbing you."

"When someone stops me on the street it's because they want something," she says, being completely honest with him.

At his question she nods. "Just got here a week ago. I'm Velma, and it's no bother. I'm just not used to everyone being so friendly is all."

"I suppose I did want something. To say hello is something, though I'm sure that is not what you meant." Obviously. "Most here do seem to be friendly. My theory is that we are all brought here together and few of us desire to take it out on others. So we are friendlier and more helpful than we would otherwise be."

Well...

"Except that I am generally this way. It has to do with where and how I was raised, likely even more than being just my way." I smile. "I'm not sure what all you know yet, but I am not from the same place as most. My home is the land of Gondor in the world of Middle-earth. Most here are from places far more modern than my own."

We are friendlier in general because we need to be. Technology has taken some of that away.

"Hopefully my forward friendliness will not bother you, Velma. I'm sure it sounds strange but I do simply enjoy meeting new people."

All that Velma can think is that he's using a lot of words to say something simple as 'we're all polite here'. He reminds her of the guys who get nervous to meet her and then start babbling.

"Like I said, no bother," she reassures him. "I bet there's a lot of people to meet all the time what with everyone coming and going the way they seem to."

She doesn't even touch on the Gondo...place he's from. Draco explained the people are from everywhere and nowhere, so she doesn't much dwell on it.

"There are, and from so many different times and places." She didn't seem busy, but does not seem to wish to talk either. I wonder where she is from that she is so closed-off. Well, many are like that.

"Thank you for not being offended where none was meant." Not everyone wouldn't be. "I should let you get about your business again."

A half-bow. She may well be exploring her new, if temporary, home.

"Maybe we'll talk again when it's not about to dump rain," Velma says as politely as she can manage while nodding up at the heavy clouds. Meeting men is usually something she's good at, happy to do, but not without making some money afterward.

She turns to go, hurrying on her way toward the hotel now as thunder rumbles.

((She's not normally rude Yesterday's weather was really stormy and the only coat she has is a fur one - no offense to Faramir ♥))

He started flustered with being reminded of Tabitha. And he's a nerd born-again nerd, so... yeah.
