but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for (OTA)

That night, finding he couldn't sleep properly (though there was hardly a night when he could) Billy decided instead to wander the streets and then head out of town towards the beach and marina. After all, there were copious amounts of bad nasties out there in Haurvatat... Zombies, robots, politicians.. Place was plum full of them, made it ( Read more... )

I'm out walking. The weather isn't particularly bad and I generally prefer outdoors to in, though working in a library helps quite a lot. Someone else is out as well, a man I may have seen before but have not met. I nod at him as we approach each other, it being polite.

I am fairly sure I have seen him before--the village is not so large.

The nod wasn't returned as the taller man walked by him and continued on his merry way. Instead, Billy stopped and turned, watching him. Either the man had coconut balls for dressing like that, or he didn't know any better..

"Nice night, huh Goldilocks?"

The man and I have passed each other before he speaks, I can only assume to me.

"Goldilocks?" I ask, turning to look at him. My hair is brown, with a bit of red. I suppose it's a bit golden at the end of summer when the sun has lightened it. "My name is Faramir."

I don't mean to sound sharp but I do not care much for the nicknames people give, and the ones people usually give to me have been mocking.

"Though it is a good night. Spring will be with us soon."

The name clarification resulted in half an unimpressed shrug. "To me.." He began, voice condescending and smarmy. "You'll always be Goldilocks.."

I do not care for his tone though the words are curious.

"Always? Have we met before?" I do not recognise him. I've met so many people but there are few I've met even once that I don't recall it when I see them again.

A few exaggerated blinks later, Billy shook his head as if to clear it of something invisible. "Wow.. Goldilocks.." He looked over at the man, head tilting a fraction. "Are you alright? You know..." An index finger motioned to the side of his own head. "Up here."

The concern he showed the other man was as far away from sincerity as it could be as he looked around at their current beachly surroundings. "Need to sit, Goldlilocks? Feeling lightheaded?"

Now I really do not care for his tone. I do not recall him but somehow I am reminded of the Joker, and a little bit of my father when he is not quite at his worst. I look directly at this man who has a name for me not my own yet has not offered his.

"I am quite well, thank you. What makes you ask?" I know how to play the game of politeness. The more acidic he becomes the blander I will get. I understand it can be quite annoying.

"Are you yourself ill? I can help you to the clinic if you wish."

The blandness was duly noted and lead only to more amusement from him.

'I am quite well, thank you. What makes you ask?'

"Well Faramir.." He began conspiratorially, leaning towards the other man slightly, blue eyes darting around a little. "You're acting just a little crazy.."

I smile and laugh.

"Oh, is that all?" I calm myself, but keep the smile. "I've been told that before though I never understood why."

I shrug.

"People seem to think I'm rather different but you could find any number of men just like me in Gondor." True. He's the one acting oddly, enough to worry me a little. I'm not sure if he's guilty of something or if he's always like this. Long Sight might help.*

*If he's really, really insane, Faramir won't be able to 'See' his feelings. He couldn't with the Joker. Otherwise he'll know if Bill is just having fun at his expense or whatever.

Amused, he shook his head with a snort. "Gondor? The land of hairy oblivious man things?"

[ooc: he's not Joker!crazy, but he is clinically insane. been described as a "borderline sociopath who knows the difference between right and wrong but mainly chooses the low road".]

He's being insulting, but I can get no sense of why. Or... is it simply because it amuses him? I have very little use of such people. It wonder if it's his way or if he simply wasn't taught any better.

"It is a land of the Race of Men, yes." What is it about my hair that people feel a need to comment? There are modern men who keep their hair long as well. It makes an easy target for those who are not particularly clever.

"Is obliviousness better than being rude?" It's not an accusation, just a question.
