Even though Kyla had spoken to Robert about Leoben, Kyla found it hard to get to sleep. She had tossed and turned over the whole encounter and then from what Robert had elaborated on. These things - cylons - were machines, but not machines. And they supposedly had feelings. What was she supposed to do with that? Kyla was normally very independent, but she was beginning to wish more and more that her mother and father were here. Her dad, at least, might know what to do. He had the most experience.
Leoben had mentioned Laura. So had Robert. The only logical step was to find this woman and talk to her. Kyla hoped Laura would have some sort of answer. If there was a silver lining in all of this, it was that the encounter with Leoben was forcing Kyla to visit places she had been avoiding. Like the bakery.
She had visited a bakery once at a compound, but what they made there was vastly different from what she had seen through the shop windows. Back home the bakery had made dry, flat bread that hardly had any taste to it. But it kept you full and that was all that matter. Here, there were things strangely shaped things she had no names for.
Kyla braced herself for a moment, telling Ginger and Ripper to stay outside, and then entered. The smell was what hit her first. Fresh, warm, and scents she had never experienced. It caused her to pause a foot inside the shop, the door closing behind her.
