Worried [OTA]

Rose was freaking. Every day she made sure that the Doctor was safe. Sometimes he grumbled with her watching him but she didn't care. Then he went missing along with his TARDIS. She hoped that it was a learning lesson thing and he was safe. If the other Doctor, the Tenth, was himself she could ask him since it'd be his memories but he was still ( Read more... )

Peter was at the counter, ordering his ritual mid-day coffee when he spotted Rose sitting with some fries. She had the classic signs of worry, including the greasy food part, which was why once Peter got his coffee he made his way over to her table instead of the door. Slipping into the seat across from her, he glanced at the fries, then at Rose. "And here I thought you said you were a connoisseur of the potato."

At least she hadn't said 'he could have turned people in monsters' because then Peter would have had to correct her, but he was fairly certain Walter hadn't turned people into robots. At least not yet.

He nodded. "Yeah. Used to work for the military, now he and I work with the FBI."

Her brow knit trying to work out exactly which the FBI was. She'd talked to the Fox Mulder bloke but she couldn't remember. "FBI, that's like MI-5 right? Terrorists?"

There was a funny story involving MI5 when he was over in London, but he decided not to share that at the moment.

"Uh, sort of. 'Homeland Security' is really more like MI-5. Protecting the country and all that. The FBI deal with all sorts of things from illegal immigrants to mobsters to kidnappings. Though the particular branch I work for deals with the sort of things mad scientists get excited over."

"Oh! Do you know a Fox Mulder then? He works with the FBI doing things like." Here Rose closed her eyes and wiggled her fingers trying to remember exactly what he did besides aliens. "Supernatural type things. Like, oh I don't know, aliens and all."

When she said it, she said it a little off hand, like it was an interesting subject but not one that she was intimately a part of. At least not until she knew what he knew about aliens. Always protecting the Doctor. Even if he wasn't here or thought he was human.

For Peter's part, he had heard of Fox Mulder, but not in the sense Rose was thinking. The X-Files had been one of the few shows he frequently watched. At least when he was in a place that had decent cable.

"Well, I haven't dealt with aliens yet. We deal more with experiments gone bad. Like viral pandemics or people walking through walls. That sort of thing."

"Viral pandemic?" That didn't sound good. Then her eyes went wide. "Seriously? People can walk through walls? What do you do, then? Study 'em? Or just figure out what makes 'em walk through walls?"

"Usually figure out how and why and catch whoever it is doing the stuff." He left out the fact most of the issues with strange things he had been experiencing was originally developed by his father. "Funny how people who can do weird things always tend to misuse their powers."

Rose thought about the people that she met both with the Doctor and in the village. "Yeah, it's the power I think. Not just bein' able to do stuff but people with a lot of money misuse it, too." Then there was Jack who when she first met him wasn't a completely good guy either.

He nodded in agreement. "Luckily it seems that most people here aren't so inclined. Of course." He paused, considering. A little smile crossed his features. "That could just be because everyone here seems to be almost as good as everyone else."

Rose laughed, "or just as bad as everyone else and we're on our best behavior."

The waitress arrived and Rose gave her order of chips hoping that it would be a taste of home. Even if they weren't, it was nice to be in a pub that reminded her of it and with good company.
