She was playing hopscotch, hair flying around her shoulders. Only...there was no rock, no numbers, no pattern drawn on the sidewalk. She was still doing it, though. It was in her head to do. Don't ask why, she won't be able to tell. Shes just doing it because it was done before on this spot, this stretch of sidewalk in front of the hotel ( Read more... )

Peter had been watching the girl outside the windowed doors of the hotel as he sipped on a cup of coffee. She seemed a little old to be playing hopscotch, but then again, his father was a little old to be doing a lot of things he wanted to do. An elderly lady walked up to the doors and Peter pushed it open and held it open until her and her little dog walked through. Now that he was outside, Peter looked back at the girl as she just stopped. "You missed one." He called out to her.

"Missed..." River turned to look at the hopscotch board only she could see, tilting her head and sighing in frustration. "They keep moving. Changing. Never the same thing in my head." The memories she was picking up from this place were never consistent and she wondered if she really was picking them up or it was just the village being unusual.

His eyebrows raised only a little. Part of the way she acted reminded him of Walter. "Yeah, I can see how that'd be a problem." He let the door go and sipped his coffee again. "They don't move in any sort of predictable pattern?"

"Nope," she shook her head, looking up at the man and watching him carefully. "Only the village knows for sure what was where." She paused then tapped her head. "I only pick up bits and pieces like a puzzle but not all of the pieces match. Some don't belong."

Okay.

Peter's expression remained the same. Yep. Definitely like talking to Walter. "Probably because half of the stuff here doesn't belong in the first place." A nexus like where all the missing socks go from the dryers.
