Dual arrival [ota]

Dec 14, 2008 20:16

Giles sat at the airport, half reading his book, the rest of the time staring into space, thinking. How he'd failed, let everyone down. He smiled fondly for a moment. Whatever happened, there would always be some good memories from his time in Sunnydale. However, it was over.

Buffy was dead.

"You really think we'd let you get away with that?" a familiar voice said from somewhere behind him. He spun to look at the source. Willow, followed by the rest of the gang.

"I was trying to avoid a scene, really," he replied, smiling gently.

He was touched that they'd come to say goodbye, bought presents from a gas station (how typical was that), when suddenly the announcement came over the tannoy. "...passengers, Flight 3982, leaving for Los Angeles, and continuing to London. Rows 20 through 30..."

"That's me," he said.

"Now? We just made it," Willow said.

"Just, yes."

Hugs all round. Giles was determined not to show any real emotion, but it was hard, especially when it came to Dawn. She'd gone through so much. "I'm just a phone call away... if you need anything." He reached down, and held Dawn's face in his hands. "You must promise me."

"I do. I promise," Dawn replied.

Goodbyes said, Giles turned to head towards the gate. He turned back once, giving them one last look. Suddenly Dawn broke free from the group and ran towards him for one last hug. He couldn't resist, dropped his bag, and held her tight for a moment, closing his eyes.

When he opened them again, he wasn't in the airport anymore. The scene had changed to something that felt English. The style of housing, Nor was any of the Scooby gang apart from Dawn, who was still hugging him.

"What the...?" he started, looking around.
