Though he's really confident and out-going and into dancing and that, he actually wasn't always so, he used to be the quiet one, it was his younger twin sister (yeah: I have a thing about twins, don't I) Briar who was the loud and *dance dance dance* one.

Then she died of anorexia.

He did the "wahhhhh ;_;" thing. Cal's family moved to Wellington (they used to live further up the North Island, in Taupo - massive lake on the map). And he suddenly found himself wanting to be confident and loud and outgoing, and wanting to if not actually dance then watch dancing...he thinks it's his sister's way of living on, only through him...it's like she's still with him, within him.
