I just wanted to say that I think your comm is awesome!!!
And I really enjoy reading it, but due to the sudden popularity of it, and the fact that so many people are listing the same things over and over (guess it's just not that obscure! LOL), I'm going to remove it from my flist! Which is too bad...but it's getting somewhat...annoying. Sorry.
Anyway, but I wanted to tell you that it's wicked, and you have a great thing going! I love finding the really obscure stuff and reading discussions about it. Maybe I'll come back in a couple of months once it's cooled down a little!
oh that's a pity. Can't you just not watch it, and pop in to read? People seem to be listing the same thing over and over because they think it's a nostalgia comm rather than a fan comm. I'd like more discussion about things rather than 'do you remember...' Hopefully it'll die down in a little while, we're still on the featured list right now. Thanks for your comments though! Sorry for killing your flist.
I've read the new infopage, clears a lot of things up for people if they read it. (Always recommended for any community one posts in, in my opinion. Guidelines aren't there to stifle anyone, just to help everyone enjoy and get the most they can out of the community.) *nods*
I think non-members should be allowed to continue commenting as long as it doesn't become a significant problem, which hopefully it wouldn't. This allows the possibility of more people that like the obscure fandom, for example, deciding to comment on the post without having to join the community to do so.
yeah, that's what I think too, that it should remain open. But there's not really any way to 'control' abusive non members. But... I only saw it a few times so yeah lets hope they get bored and go away. :)
It's not too harsh? The thing is, I don't mind a bit of nostalgia. But that's not what the comm's for, and when almost every post is like that, it gets very annoying. Also cleared up things about 'listing' and about multiple posts (like, don't just post three times in a day to get around the 'list' rule, etc)
Yes, this sudden influx of new members has definitely been a mixed blessing. Hopefully once the spotlight ends things will settle down to a half-way point between the busy but-not-terribly-on-topic now and the on-topic but a tad slow group it was before.
"Should non members be allowed to comment on entries? I personally think they should but we've had a few undesireable comments around the place."
I haven't seen the anony-nasties here so far, but then I haven't looked at all the posts. Things seem kind of up in air at the moment; maybe wait a few days and if seems to be a continuing problem put the non-members block on?
yeah it most likely will work out in the end. :) I'm just hoping that people are even looking at the info page, and understanding that because it's called ' heard of it' it's not a comm to check if people have heard of stuff, it's called that because it's a common response to people who don't like mainstream things. 'sorry, never heard of it'.
Yeah, there haven't been THAT many of them. They're not anonymous though. They're just not members. Like that post about 'Lost' a while back.
It seems like ppl just really want to talk of books, movies, shows, etc from their childhood because they have good memories attached. I know that feeling. that's why I just made a community maybe you could direct ppl there. Backntheday
I don't mind if people talk about the shows and books they used to like in their childhood as long as they go into detail further than 'do you remember...'
This could be a good idea, it does seem like a lot of people are excited about remembering old shows and books that used to be popular and maybe not even obscure. Having a different comm for that could help thin out the posts here that aren't necessarily what this one is about. Maybe could be added to the suggested communities in the user info, like whatwasthatone was added? Those posts will probably still show up here (and like longlongwaytogo said, are okay in moderation) but it gives them an option for one more specifically tailored for that.

I've not run a comm this big before.
