Limiting

Um... would people mind limiting the number of  things they want to talk  about? (in one entry) I'd prefer it if the whole comm did not become a 'list', where people list lots of things, without any details about it (or many details), things that they used to enjoy/still enjoy? Would people mind maybe talking about one or two per entry? (or having ( Read more... )

Ow, I may be a bit old for this! I will throw them out anyway! Does Square Pegs ring a bell? Sarah Jessica Parker, Jami Gertz? It was on TV 1982.

One more, how about The Young Ones? Anybody? Anybody? Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Sorry! Thats two!

huh? No, that's not what I meant by 'questions' lol. I meant 'questions about this entry'.

If you wanted to make entries about any of those shows and movies, that'd be fine. Just please don't just 'list' if you can avoid it. Or at least don't list too many of them at once. :)

"Please don't include too many things (books, tv shows, movies etc) in each entry." probably needs to be bolded in the rules. Plus maybe add "Detail is good" or some variation thereof to the end. =)

okay. :) I don't mind occasional lists. I really don't. But... I know this sounds horrible, and I apologise, but it does seem like lots and lots of people think that that's the only thing that you can do in this comm. List stuff that you remember liking. Some of that is fine. But when every entry is like that. And very few are about being... actual fans of something, rather than just a list of reminiscences, it's... a bit weird. So I'd like a mix at the very least. An understanding of the types of things and ways to talk about it.
I'll go and bold that stuff now!

Hah, time to go start a nice rant for you on the major horror of small fandoms then.

Thanks for that! :)

Oh and, blueraine posted fanfiction. I'm the only one who commented on it. It's like that for lots of fanfiction on this comm... *sigh*. I don't really want the attitude of 'waiting around for other people who have stuff in common with me' to be the only attitude. Giving new things a try is part of it too, I think. Like how I posted up a clip and I doubt anyone even looked a t it... because they hadn't heard of the show it was from. That was the point. To try and get them to look at it...

I think it might be good if you made the community info a little shorter and more succinct. It's quite long, people probably skip it. Maybe make a list of the most important things for people to know and just put that?

Yeah I'm going to have to. Not quite sure how to go about doing that right now though.

Would you mind if I sort of edited it down a little for you? Then you can change if you like, make sure it says what you want.

No, I wouldn't mind at all.

I think your explanation of this was fine, actually. In fact, I was thinking just a little while ago that I was getting a little concerned about where this comm seems to be headed. (And I only officially joined the other day. *laughs* But I went through all the old posts first, a little before it began to truly explode with new posters.)

I like it being about things that you think are worth checking out that someone else may not have heard of or might not know much about. The trend towards "remember this old show on Nick/Disney" is more of a nostalgia thing than a "here's an unsusual thing I know about and why you should watch/read it too." You could do the same thing at a party with your old friends from high school. Not that people shoudn't talk about things that used to be on those channels at all, of course. But I agree that there should be some variety instead of all/mostly "do you remember", especially if it's a show that was fairly popular at the time. Yeah..

thankyou.
If a show is IMPORTANT to you, and you'd like to do a 'do you remember' with it, then, I have no problem with that at all. Like if you're still a fan of it. Or an occasional 'hey, i used to love this show as a kid' post. Fine by me. But when it's almost every single post, and it's a big list of stuff without any details or questions or conversation...I get concerned for the comm.
It's nice that even new members 'get' what my 'problem' with this is. It's not a comm to list all your memories for 'no reason' really.
I did say 'nostalgia is fun' in the info section, but I meant like... nostalgia about shows that you REALLY liked, and further than 'do you remember' where the only real answer is 'yes' or 'no'.
