So next Sunday I'm going to see a conservatory production of Chess with my parents, who know absolutely nothing about the show except that it's my favorite musical. And this has reminded me of my long-standing intention to pimp the show out here.

Chess was written by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson (the guys from ABBA) with Tim Rice (the guy who ( Read more... )

Sounds pretty cool might go see that sometime! I've started to get a liking to unsympathetic characters because most of the time they're the most real.

I have a serious love for unsympathetic characters, which sounds like a bit of a contradiction but whatever, I want my heroes to be selfish, spoiled, cruel, nasty, whatever, and then smacked down viciously by life. I identify more with them that way.

Well, I'm quite familiar with "One Night in Bangkok," anyhow! And I love characters who are commonly deemed unsympathetic. I think I'll make an attempt to check it out.

Unf. Oh god, Chess. I *love* Chess. I have the concept album and I know the whole thing by heart. Such a good story, and the music is amazing. I really get a kick out of informing coworkers when One Night in Bangkok comes on what the song is really about, since no one seems to know.

I so agree with you about everything you said. Chess is awesome, and everyone who likes musicals should see it!

I tend to get a little overenthusiastic about it, or so my coworkers say, so I'm glad to have someone confirm the awesomeness. :D

Chess. <3 Each song from the concept album has between 270 and 380 plays on my iTunes, and that doesn't count how often I play it on my iPod. (Needless to say, I know it by heart, and my family is quite sick of it. XD ( ... )

As much as I love the show, I have to admit that this upcoming performance will be the first time I've seen it live. And it's a conservatory program, which isn't ideal, but whatever, it's Chess.

"Where I Want To Be" is without a doubt my favorite song. It's the one I put on a loop when I'm at the low point of my depression cycle, because it's pretty much perfectly what I feel at that point, all paranoid and running for my life/and never looking back/in case there's someone right behind/to shoot me down/and say he always knew I'd fall.

I've just moved to a much bigger city than the one I was in before, so hopefully it'll run at a nearby theater at some point in the near future. :D Oooh, I think there's a couple community theaters, too. Maybe I could even be in it... *daydreams* That would be even more awesome than being in Fiddler on the Roof.

Hahaha! That's totally playing right now. XD *Loves her iTunes, yes she does* It's a very awesome song, it is. <3

I have the album, and the "chess moves" promo videos, but never thought to look for online fandom for it.

I never did manage to see it live :-(

(of course, my actual favorite musical is War of the Worlds, but Chess comes a close second...)

There's not much of an online fandom, but there's a little. There's some fic around, and at least one LJ community, and, um, I think that's it, but still, it's there. ;D

Aww. Close second is good, though! And War of the Worlds is excellent, I can't deny that.
