I thought that I'd pick one of the shows that I like to talk about. And since I'm watching a clip of it right now on Youtube, I thought that I'd start with Blackpool.
This thread may (probably will) contain spoilers, though I will not reveal how it ends. But if you are the sort who sit on tenterhooks while watching this sort of show, like I was,

I have seen a few Blackpool/Doctor Who fic crossovers, and I do have this icon, because of David's woobie face, and as love and worship of the Tennant continues thanks to Doctor Who I've seen more and more people who know about and love Blackpool.
I would be terrified of writing fic for it, though, because of the struggle to stay true to the surreality of it. It's not the same without the songs! So it's hard to lend itself to a proper fandom in that sense.

Well I figure that you just don't have songs, (since they're just representative of what's actually happening)...
Really? I've seen one crossover of Blackpool and Dr Who. I wasn't that interested in a crossover so I didn't read it.
I love Blackpool for more than David...

We do exist!
Oh great! A fellow person who knows of Blackpool!
To me, though, the songs are what really makes the miniseries. I mean, it would still have been an interesting drama without the songs, but not nearly as much as it was with them. It wouldn't be true to the feel without having those totally random musical moments to me.
I love Blackpool for more than David...
Oh, me too. David's a lovely actor and gorgeous eye candy, but I enjoy Blackpool for more than just that, though it was originally the draw of, and I quote - "LOL it's a cracky Law & Order-style musical with Doctor Who" that got me downloading it. (Casanova, on the other hand, was all about eye candy.) It's a very good mystery, and I'm always weak for multi-plotlined films, and there are several great subplots in Blackpool. It's also a rather sweet love story several times over.
There are a few crossovers in DW (I can think of at least three I've seen) but I have yet to see Blackpool fic on its own, sadly.

I started watching it because my friend was going on about it... and, it had "Don't Stop Me Now" in it, which was the first song she showed me to convert me to it. I love that song. She also showed me "Boy with a thorn in his side" and "these boots are made for walking" and then I was desperate to see it.
I love the twists in it, and that it's partially from the point of view of the 'baddies'. And how it's about 'what is good and what is bad?'. It explores ideas...
I've seen *one* Blackpool fic, it was very short and it was a conversation between Carlisle and Blythe.

There's not a lot, particularly since the majority of entries are chapters of one long crossover. (Rose Tyler/alt!Peter Carlisle -- which is not all that bad, strangely enough.) But there are a few, so it does exist to some extent. I've run across one or two others scattered around.
Oh, Danny totally had the hots for Carlisle. I'd love to read a sequel set a couple of years later focusing on the problems of Danny lusting after his stepfather. Or Peter using this to manipulate Danny. Or manipulate Natalie, possibly.
Have you ever seen the sequel, by the way? It's called 'Viva Blackpool.' Can't remember what BBCAmerica called it, since they'd already appropriated that name for no good reason the original series. No appearances by anyone other than Ripley and Shyanne, though.

and I agree. :) Though... I don't think he's going to lust after his stepfather. That would... disturb me, and I don't think he's going to. He just saw a hot guy and flirted, i think that the whole 'stepfather' thing is going to put him off, like the whole 'policeman' thing did too.
Sorry, crossovers aren't really my thing... and I really liked the relationships that were already there in the show. Though... Danny needs a boyfriend. :D
No, not seen the sequel, and I don't want to. It doesn't sound like it was very well planned, and I really doubt that Shyanne would get divorced.
