Cold has no real meaning for angels. Nor wind, nor wet, nor snow.

Without an earthly body, those things are just words. Notions.

Not so for the humans caught in the storm. For them the cold is all too real and present.

"It is disheartening," Castiel says quietly, "the number who think they are being punished."

"Or that their neighbors are, and they are suffering the consequences."

"You should come with me."

Castiel watches as the teacher gives instructions to the oldest pupils--the ones who will be bringing up the rear.

"Whether we go or stay....it will make no difference."

Deep down, he wishes it were not so. Their Father imbued them with great power, at least by human standards. Sometimes Castiel questions why they would be given that power and not be permitted to use it for so long.

But it is the Father's will. All he can do is put his faith in that.

Like the teacher below them, Castiel, it seems, would rope her to him, so as not to lose her in the storm.

And maybe . . . maybe it will work.

Delaying a decision often enough is, after all, the same as making a different one.

"All right. Where will we go?"

He is surprised by her agreement. And momentarily flummoxed.

He is not used to being the one to make the decisions. To set the course.

"West?" he ventures.

Out from under the weight of the storm.

"West, then," she agrees.

Clearer skies that way.

At least for now.
