It's a mounted sport...

I believe... it helps the rider to learn mounted combat and keep skills fresh. Generally, there are... multiple skills tested. Use of the lance, sword fighting - mounted, and sword fighting - dismounted. But I suppose it varies with the tournament.

Points are assigned for certain hits on the body, and total dismounts are generally very good. In this case, I believe victors get coins.
