[Closed to Chase] There are times when talking to your best friend helps. This was not one of them.

House watched the entire room pass through his line of sight as he kicked off the floor, giving the chair enough momentum to spin the seat almost full circle. He wasn't sure why he paged Chase and not one of the others, or what exactly he was going to tell him in terms of what was going on. He just didn't want to tell Wilson, because then he'd have ( Read more... )

Chase didn't know when he pushed his way into House's office. It seems he was going to do his own reputation as a bastard pretty well himself when he all-but growled at one of the catering staff giving out cups of tea to the rehab ward. House always seemed to just have the most pristine timing without even trying. But Chase took comfort in the fact that any guy who go interrupted before climax would be in a bad mood, it wasn't just him. "Yeah?" was his greeting, holding his hand up in question. Just because he was cranky inside, didn't mean he wasn't curious about why House paged him in the first place.

Staring at the ceiling, House rotated side to side in his office chair, drumming his fingers against the plastic of the arm. "What would you do," he started calmly, eyes still fixed on the holes in the faux stucco ceiling, "... for a patient who is experiencing sporadic lapses in memory after blunt head trauma?"

Alright, so that probably wasn't as vague as House would have liked it to be. Hopefully, Chase didn't care enough to notice.

House picked his head up, raising his eyebrows at the Aussie. "In your own professional opinion, of course," he added nonchalantly.

Chase looked over House's appearance for a moment, and then took in the contents of his desk. "When was your last CT?" he asked. "MRI? You could have a lesion, bleed, something that wasn't picked up on the last one."

He leaned over to pick up the two pill bottles. The Vicodin was unceremoniously dumped back on the desk after a quick check of the label while the second one got a little more intent scrutiny. "How long have you been taking these? It's got some pretty nasty adverse reactions, confusion and hallucinations being right up there."

Damn. He didn't know whether to be aggravated or relieved that Chase picked up on whatever the hell House was getting at. He wasn't even sure he himself knew what the hell he was getting at, either.

"Hallucinations were there before I started taking them; confusion is why I'm taking them." he explained bluntly. Scratching at his forehead with a thumb, House pressed his lips together. "I need you to sit in on my differentials."
