Creative Writing Exercise #2: Writing Darkness, Writing Suddenness
[
#1]
Imagine the following scene:
Character A walks along a lighted hallway at night. Character B appears outside of the window, then climbs inside through the window. In this exact moment, the light goes out. It's pitch-black dark in the hallway. Both characters can only navigate by touch, by sounds and smells.
Write this scene without using the word "suddenly" and without using words describing darkness like "dark, darkness, black, blackness". Give the characters a gender and a name. You can write either from the point-of-view of Character A or from the pov of Character B. Decide whether they know each other or not. Decide whether they find the light switch at the end of the hallway or not. Decide whether hitting the switch will make the light go on again or not. You may write fanfic or original fic.
Write a full scene (with beginning, some kind of tension arc and ending) with a maximum word count of 500 words. (

Post your writing in a comment to this post, no later than Sunday, September 11, 6pm GMT.
(Late posts are, of course, welcome. The deadline is just for people who write better with a deadline. :))
