Pairing(s): Harry/Draco, Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione (very far in the background), Draco/Astoria (past)
Summary: Harry is adrift without an anchor after the prophecy that shaped the first eighteen years of his life is fulfilled. Restless and bored, and wanting to stop Hermione from nagging him about wasted opportunities, he decides to spend his time volunteering at a Muggle homeless shelter...then along comes Malfoy, with an anchor of his own that he needs help carrying.
Rating: NC-17
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Warning(s): MPREG (but non-graphic, there is no girly!Draco or birthing through the mouth Hey, I read that in a fic once, I promise!), minor character death (happens offscreen), angst, UST-to-RST, major abuse to all laws of nature and mankind (ain't magic grand?), and some man-on-man mouth-on-bits action. There is also some frank discussion of a dysfunctional sexual relationship between a man and woman, if that bothers you. And, er, also blatant and obvious theft of a scene from Deathly Hallows part one - insincere apologies to Dan and Emma. There is also talk of miscarriage.
Epilogue compliant? A little bit yes, but mostly no. I took what I liked from the epilogue and threw away what didn't suit my story (99.9% of it).
Word Count: ~34,700
Author's Notes: OMGNO MPREG EVERYONE RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! Ahem. The mods have informed me that I have the only MPREG fic this year, so yay for individuality? One of the mods also tells me that you're quite fond of this genre,
sassy_cissa, so I hope that I've managed to do it in a way that pleases you. :) If not, your fault for asking for it! I, too, am very particular about the MPREG that I prefer, and admit to shaping that part of the story in this very particular way. I do hope that you aren't the only one to read this because of that warning, because ultimately this is a story about how two people find their way through life - first separate, and then together, and how sharing it can allow 'some kind of wonderful' to shine through the banality of a mundane existence.
*Title shamelessly stolen not from the well-known 1960's tune of the same name, but from the 1980's movie (also of the same name). RIP John Hughes, I ♥ you.
Also,
St. Mungo's is a real organisation located in London, and all of the locations are real. I know very little about how they run their organization, but instead took my own experiences of volunteering and inserted them. I mean absolutely no disrespect, but simply used the opportunity to raise awareness of a very real place that does very real hard work on behalf of those in need.
