Fic: Meeting in the Greenhouse

Jul 30, 2009 12:11

Ginny walked through a curtain of vines into a small hidden section of Greenhouse six , glowing wand-written words hung in the air in front of the door - be careful what you touch!, followed by a second message: Watch where you put your fingers!!

“Well I can’t say I wasn’t warned.” Ginny said. The walls and ceiling of this part of the green-house ( Read more... )

Wow! What a great and imaginative look at Neville and the world of magical horticulture! This does feel so in keeping with his character in Book six and foreshadows effectively how he rises to the need later. Now I understand better Neville's running by at the Battle at Hogwarts with plants in his arms.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the plants. I worried that I spent to much time on descriptions of the greenhouse. I tried to keep his character in line with his few appearances in book six. I'm glad that you liked this.

I am horticulturally challenged, so it's always a treat to read Neville stories written by someone who clearly knows their stuff. The details of the various plants and the way Ginny has to cautiously make her way through the greenhouse are wonderful.

If I knew how to use nonverbal spells my nose wouldn’t have mattered.

That's a really interesting thought.

He was probably telling her far more about what needed to be done.

And of course, the irony is that no one else is telling Ginny anything.

He fingered the DA coin in his pocket. Perhaps he sounded foolish, flighty. Surely her friends knew more than he did. Maybe she knew more and was already preparing. He was probably making a fool of himself.

You stick to your guns, Neville! You're not making a fool of yourself at all.

Thank you so much - this is much more than I could have imagined when I threw out the prompt. And the hint of unrequited Neville/Ginny in there makes me suspect that you know me. :)

"And of course, the irony is that no one else is telling Ginny anything."

Yes, neither Ginny nor any of the other students are really being prepared for what is coming.

"You stick to your guns, Neville! You're not making a fool of yourself at all."

Exactly, I thought Luna's and Neville's desire to keep the slugclub together made perfect sense and not just for themselves.

The hint of wistful Neville feelings for Ginny was purposeful. I'm glad you liked them. And I'm thrilled that you liked the greenhouse scenes.

I can't believe I wrote about Neville's and Luna's desire to keep the slugclub together when I meant the DA. UGGGH.
