In speaking this past weekend with a worker with a non-profit organization that meets with farmers and owners to spread information on and techniques of sustainable farming practices, we heard a real eye-opening bit of information. As an absentee landowner, I trust the farmer to practice accepted land-use techniques. Of course, he's my nephew-in-law.

I bet you actually communicate with him more than once a lifetime about what's up on the farm, too.

Hm... I know that the family still owns land in the states where my Great-Grandfather first homesteaded and we rent it out but I know they do actually talk to the farmers more than once a year. Interesting how it all works out.
