Pinging car people (esp. Mako!!)

Mako (and others who know about such things)...

Now that I'm extorting charging a few guys for taking them to work I'm going to have a bit of money set aside for doing car repairs/mods.  I haven't purchased a CAI yet, and was wondering that, with our cold winters (can be in the negs most of the winter, usually in the singles or teens) should I go ( Read more... )

Install it now. Colder air is always denser.

Denser air contains more O2.

More O2 means you can burn more fuel.

More fuel burned = more HP.

You might see a very modest MPG improvement, but that's going to be hard to see unless you've been closely tracking your MPG.

CYa!

Kay. Was just wondering because some of the people on a couple of Focus forums I frequent mentioned that they took their CAI off during the winters.

What brand is good? Some of the people really like the AEM brand.

MPG in the recent weeks.... (today: Marathon gas)34, (last week, some interstate driving, Marathon gas)35, 37(week prior: Huck's gas). I have to pay attention because a lot of the gas stations around here put ethanol with their gas. Walmart gas seems to do the worst in my car, netting me sub 33 MPG.

I don't like to get Marathon gas many times in a row because they put other additives in their fuel. Huck's seems to be the best in my car, but for some strange reason if I just get Huck's gas for a while my MPG goes down.

Average MPG has been around 35 this year since I've changed over to full synthetic gas.

So, yeah, I track my MPG..hehe.

By the by, thanks for all of your help!

Yeah, I have a 2002 SE. It has been a great little car. Bought it in Feb. 04 with 17k miles on it, now it has just under 145k. The only thing that goes wrong is the shift solenoid B.

I haven't gotten into too much modding...and have no idea what performance springs would do for my car.
