Zurich 2011, part 1: Art on Ice!

I've been dying to post about Zurich and Art on Ice for over a week now, but job stuff cockblocked me. Anyway, here we go with the Art on Ice section. Warning: photo-heavy and a couple of wobbly vids, plus overuse of the words 'amazing', 'favourite' and 'loved'. ;)

OMG YAY!!! so glad you posted! wow your seats on the first day were awesome!! though i get what you're saying about having trouble taking it all in lol!
i was gonna quote almost yuor whole post, but then i realized that i jsut agree with you on everyone - Jeff, Joannie, John and Sinead, Sarah, Shizuka and of course steph! they're all so amazing - i think AOI is the best collection of skaters out there! your pics are awesome! mine from euros came out so blurry!!

I got totally overwhelmed the first night. I mean, they were RIGHT THERE in front of me!! But I didn't worry too much about that because I knew I'd be back again and catch all the bits I missed while flailing and peering round the ppl in front.

I know, AOI had such a good cast - and it kept getting better with every new act they added. I was so lucky.

Did you have a good time at Euros? Just how cold was it in that arena? They kept complaining about it on tv!

it was REALLY COLD!!! we had like a bazillion layers, plus swiss army blankets wrapped around and it was still freezing - especially during the men's free, it was night and this wind started! thank god brian kept us warm and screaming at the top of our lungs lol!!
we came back and watched everything on eurosport and nicky and chris cracked up up with their comments, i love them!!!!
it was just a surreal experience, because stephane sat right at the entrance, and when we came in we were suddenly right next to him - so so surreal! i didnt want to go to our seats heh! and the atmosphere of the competition is just the most amazing thing i have ever experienced. lee didnt particularly like figure skating before but now he is completely addicted!
should i post photos? do you think anyone would be interested???

I'd be extremely interested!! I want to know what your view was and what you got to see. Did you go every day?

I felt pretty guilty sitting at home watching it in the warm lol. But I did wish I was there! The emotion of Brian's recovery in the free, Sarah's win and Florent getting the crowd in a frenzy looked amazing. Shows are great, but I want to see a competition. Euros are in the UK next year, but I'm also secretly wanting to go to Worlds in France. ;)

So glad you got to see Steph! He's just magnetic, isn't he? And awesome that Lee got into it all! Makes your life much easier, right? ;) I do think that if most people who dismiss figure skating actually saw it live they'd realise how athletic and pressured and amazing it is as a sport and a spectacle.
