I feel like I'm being phased out...

So for the past few weeks I've been not doing my job. Normally I review product labels and what not. But since they've hired the permanent doing that, they've sort of been phasing me out. Lately I've been doing odd jobs for Product Registration. Now I'm sitting here with nothing to do, which is why I feel brazen enough to write an entry. I just ( Read more... )

I didn't know you were a temp worker. How long have you been there? Doesn't the company have to hire you after 3 months? At least that's how it is in Memphis.

I am indeed a temp. It sucks balls. Especially since the permanent employees are so conceited. They pretty much all have a superiority complex when it comes to dealing with temps. "Oh! Not so loud! We don't want the temps to know they're not invited to the luncheon at Subway!" I believe my agency said it was at least a two year gig, and that there was a possibility of hire (lying!). But no, they don't have to hire me. In essence, I'm a full-time employee at KForce, the temp agency. I'm a CONSULTANT!!!! Whatever.

Consultants are different from temps. The whole tax thing is different even. Are they taking taxes out of your check?

Yes, of course. That is what my agency calls me. To everyone else, though, I'm a temp.

wow Haze, that does kinda suck. I am sorry. what will you do if you are phased out? Like, if they decide they really do not need you anymore, and want to let you go. Do you stay here as long as you can, or do you go elsewhere? Further, don't you have a two year contract with them? If they do decide that they don't know what to do with you, do you get a termination package?

If my assignment is terminated without just cause, I am entitled to get another job!!! But KForce did say that they would find me another assignment and even encourage me to let them know if I'm not happy so that they can find me a position elsewhere. I'm tempted. But if my assignment ends before the supposed two years--I don't think the time is in the contract, only vague clauses stating things like, "...as long as the consultant is needed," and "...until the needs of the client are met"--I'm going to go back home to mama. I'm pretty sure they can pretty much call my agency, tell them they have no need for me anymore and get rid of me. I tell you what, though. I'll pitch a fit. It's not my damn fault they are so disorganized.
