What the hell happened in the past week or so that's gotten everyone so worked up?

[In reference to all of the LM fandom ridiculousness.]

Well, I'm not quite sure either. From what I know, there was quite a bit of touchiness regarding the Enjolras-Autistic? thread and then people (I'm not quite sure who) started complaining that the fandom had been going downhill and wasn't as friendly as it used to be. In Les Mis terms, the thread was like Lamarque's death i.e. the thing sparked feelings of unhappiness that had been brewing for some time.

On a personal note, I really hope the fandom doesn't fall apart. It's lasted so well, through thick and thin, and I think that, if nothing else, is worth something.

Hmm. :(

I agree with you, it is definitely worth something and I'm upset that differences of opinion and implications of eliteness, etc are breaking it apart.

I find it quite hard to understand, though. There have always been differences in opinion, even the odd argument, but nothing to make anyone want to leave before. My Mum was saying only yesterday that from what she knew (she likes to check that I'm not putting myself in any danger) that everyone seemed like the nicest, friendliest bunch of people and was amazed at how civil everyone is. Compared with, say, MdN, Abaisse is not elitist at all. Nobody has ever attacked me for my somewhat unpopular opinions e.g. liking Eponine, Frances Ruffelle etc. In fact, everyone is incredibly supportive of individual views regardless of whether they agree with them.

I really hope all this blows over. I love Abaisse and everything it stands for. Plus I have made such great friends and had such interesting discussions that would never have happened without it.

I think Frédérique has the right of it - it looks to me like a miscommunication between different levels of interpretation and, because of the nature of one of those levels, it felt personal and thus got wanky v. quickly.

But I'm also obviously part of the elitism problem, so I'm trying to stay out of the whole thing.

People don't know how to the nice to each other, or apologize. This however, has been a long-sweeping problem and not just recently and this counts for both sides.
