Konnichiwa minna-San! I'm Shida Mirai.. 17 years old and I’m currently in high school. When i grow up, I want to be... Errrmmmm... RICH!!!
Shida is a typical high school girl with the weirdest perseverance when it comes to her dream... Being RICH!! She lives with her grandmother who took care of her and 3 other children who were left by their parents.
Being an old woman having the responsibility for 4 children and having a weak body, her grandma doesn’t manage to give them enough things for their own needs. This is why Shida has the perseverance to do part time job to sustain the way they live...
Who would think her life will turn upside down after meeting a man complete opposite to her?
Yamada Ryosuke... 17 years old. High school student. Cool, Smart, handsome, sporty, skin as smooth as female's, a total heartthrob.... Most of all, RICH!!! For short, an ideal PRINCE!! However... Cold, arrogant and won't care about the world...
Let's start our story with a "ring"...
"ringgg..... rinnggg..... rinnnnggg..."
"moshi moshi??.." said Shida with a calm voice, whispering to mouth piece of the phone.
"Mirai-San desu Ka?" a mysterious voice talked opposite the line.
"hai… Shida Mirai desu.. What can I do for you?"
"My mistress wants to meet you personally so I'll only tell the details once. You better write it down."
Shida getting all confused, answered in a frustrated voice: "dare? Dare???"
Instead, a deep voice answered: "go to Shibuya starbucks tomorrow 3pm. And we'll meet you there."
Beep... Beep... Beep...
Leaving the poor girl confused, the person on the other end of the line mysteriously hung up leaving Shida clueless.
"Why should I go? I don't even know who that was!"
"It’s probably a prank call.”
Having reassured to herself that the call is indeed fake, she cannot help herself but to wonder what kind of things await to her in their meeting.
“Don’t go Shida!!!” said the little voice in her head. However, as a result of her curiousness, she got herself following the orders of the mysterious man over the phone.
"kochi.. Kochi!!" an unknown woman waving at her telling her to sit at the end table opposite her.
Shida suddenly felt more confused yet quite relived that it was a beautiful and fragile looking woman was waiting for her rather than a scary man like she imagined talking over the phone the other day.
As Shida approached the posh looking woman, she was welcomed by a big smile and a greeting..
"hajimemashite Mirai San.. Douzo.” The woman offered a seat to Shida.
As she sat to the chair pointed by the woman, she immediately opened the conversation with all her thoughts about what’s going on.
"anou.. Who are you? Why did you call me here? Do I know you? Whatever it is, it wasn't me!!"
She burst out with all her nervousness hiding inside even before coming to that place.
The woman quite shocked, yet amazed by her outburst, she calmly said: "gomen ne? For the scary phone call yesterday... I watched ‘The Ring’ a few days ago and was playing my voice changing mic.. I thought it would be fun!!" the mysterious woman laughed naively as if nothing major happened.
"ahahahahahahahah... gomen gomen!! Now back to business.” she suddenly gave a serious looking face staring at Mirai's eyes.
All Shida can think of is: "what a weird woman.”
Suddenly, the woman smiled again and said: "I want you to make my son come back to me. I want him to be normal again." the woman said this with a sympathetic look on her face.
"I want him to talk to me again and be her mom. He's always busy and don't have time for our family. Even though it's only me, him and his grandfather."
Shida looked at the woman with a strange look. After a few moments of thinking, she burst out saying: "is this a joke? Look lady, I'm not a nurse or a carer. I'm a high school student! I don't even know who you are. I'm the wrong person for the job!!"
"I'm sorry my dear for not introducing myself earlier. I'm Yamada Tohru. This is my son.”
The woman picked out a picture from her bag and presented it to Shida. "His name is Yamada Ryosuke."
Shida can't believe her eyes when she saw the picture of Yamada Ryosuke, member of the group Hey! Say! Jump… The group her friends were talking about day and night.
Shida stood up and looked at the lady up and down. After a while, she thought: "oh my God!! I can actually see the resemblance!! I knew she looks familiar.”
"Onegai Shida-chan. Please help me. I promise to pay you twice your salary in your part time job. Onegai!!"
The desperate looking woman put her hands together as if begging for Shida's forgiveness.
Shida gave a doubtful look and said: "why me?"
Mrs. Yamada gave a big smile and said: "I looked at your school profile and had you investigated. Pretty, friendly, sporty, hardworking.. Cheerful!! Gomen for invading your privacy."
"I think you'll be the perfect match for my son's cold attitude" she included.
Having seen how desperate the woman was, Shida still grabbed the chance to refuse at the offer. "I'm the wrong person to approach. I don't even know your son well, despite him being famous. Besides, I have school and part time jobs to do. Shitsureishimasu"
As she attempt to go, Mrs. Yamada suddenly repeated one condition of the favour...
"I'll pay you double your salary in your part time jobs... You'll also have a scholarship in my son's school!!" she shouted.
That made Shida stop and think. That opportunity will help her family as well as herself from working from various part time jobs which she hated.
"I accept!!"
After that, she found herself shaking the woman's hand with affirmation as if they've known each other for a long time.
*Shida's first day in her new school...*
Nervous? Shaking? Excitement?
NO!! All Shida can think about is her task set by Mrs. Yamada.
"Your job is simple. I just want you to make my son as friendly and as loving like he used to be. Be his friend and make him smile, Shida-chan… I'm counting on you!!" Mrs. Yamada's voice still echoes to Shida's ears...
"ahhhhhhh!! I'm crazy agreeing to this!!! Baka Baka Baka!!!" she SHOUTED OUT LOUD as she walked in a half empty hallway.
The people around looked at her creating an awkward silence in the area.
"gomen.. Gomen.."
Having apologised, her humiliation touched her face making it bright red. She then found herself running away from the crowd "hazukashi!!!" she continues to run with her head down still thinking what an embarrassing first day of school!!
*BANG!!!*
"ITAIIIII... Oi!! Can you please look where you're goiii...." her voice faded after seeing the face of the person she bumped into.
"You're in my way...” a cold yet deep voice came out of the person.
As he walked away, Shida didn't hesitate to talk to the person she has a mission to.
"Yamada-kun right? Hajimemashite.. Shida Mirai desu.. Yoroshiku!!"
Shida introduced herself as friendly as she can as a start.
She reached out her hand expecting the person to shake hands with her. However, she only received a cold look from him.
"what cold eyes he has... This guy is scary.." she thought making her confidence go down to zero.
Yamada turned his back again to give the impression of being unfriendly...
"Least you can do is apologise after bumping to me!! What an arrogant person you are.”
Shida suddenly burst out words of annoyance towards the back of the boy.
Yamada suddenly looked back and gave her an even colder look only this time, he looked at her up and down...
"I'm DEAD!!" Shida thought biting her lower lip as she looked at the scary eyes of Yamada.
Yamada walked slowly towards her until Shida's back pressed against the wall. They are about 3 inches away from each other. Yamada looked down at Shida with a blank expression on his face. Shida looked back with a concerned face.
Suddenly, Yamada broke the silence with a soft smirk. "You’re interesting.... Just don't get in my way and you'll have no trouble."
Shida's heart sank with his words and slowly recovers as she watched him walk away from her. She gave off a big "sigh...” to indicate her relief in the end of that encounter.
"He's a tough one!! He'll be quite a challenge... Yosha!! Shida... Fight-o... OHH!!!"
She left the area with a half-smile on her face both indicating excitement on her mission and being worried of what will happen to her starting from.... NOW!!!
"Ohayo Yamada-kun!!" Shida gave a big greeting to Yamada hoping to get a reply. Instead, Yamada just gave her a cold stare in return.
"ahhhgggggg!!! Why is there a person like him living in this world??!!!"
"no no no... Shida, relax... Inhale... Exhale.. Remember why your here.." she said to herself to release stress from the arrogant man before her.
One of their classmates suddenly approached Shida as she saw what just happen between Shida and Yamada.
"he's so cool ne?! Ahhhhhhh... He's the PRINCE of this school you know. He's known for his cold attitude. But he's good at everything. Most popular boy at school.” the girl introduced Yamada of what his status in the school.
"Look.. Look here.." the girl pulled out a school magazine out of her bag and showed Shida a section of it.
A snap picture of Yamada was in the middle of the page with big bold text around it saying: "ICHIBAN. Most popular. 3 years running. "
"Sugoi!!" Shida can't help herself but started to think that was amazing.
*school bell*
Shida took her chance to talk to Yamada again:
"Yamada-kun... Do you want to meet up after class? I want you to show me around the campus a bit coz your the only one I know here at the moment.. Onegai!!" Shida ask Yamada as friendly as possible to make a move as part of her mission.
However, all Yamada said was "NO..."
He left the room quiet and cold.
Shida became still and quiet for awhile then persistently said: "I'll wait for you in the school gate later..."
Shida's mind dazed as she thought: "hah!! I won't lose to you!! I don't take NO for an answer.. Mwahahahaaha"... She sniggered away having said that in her head with confidence.
Hearing the last bell ring for the day, Shida hurried to the school gate to meet Yamada...
10 minutes passed...
20 minutes passed...
25 minutes passed...
30 minutes passed...
*sigh...* "what am I doing?! I'm supposed to be at home now under my warm blanket. Instead I'm here waiting for that stupid jerk...”
45 minutes passed...
Having variety of thoughts on how to KILL that arrogant boy, Shida had already waited for Yamada for 1 hour and 45 minutes without her noticing. Finally, she decided to give up, go home and bang her head on the wall with annoyance.
"What a waste of time!! I'll get back on him... That's for sure!!"
*the next morning.*
"achhhhoooooo!!!!" Shida gave off a big sneeze... "I think I caught a cold waiting yesterday... I blame HIM!!!"
Speaking of the devil, Yamada passed in front of her going for his seat.
"Ohayo Yamada-kun... I waited for you yesterday but you stood me up!! Did something happen?" Shida still put on a nice and friendly act as if nothing happen.
As usual, Yamada gave her a cold look and said: "I didn't tell you to wait for me, did I?" he coldly replied to Shida even without an apology. Without and explanation, Yamada suddenly stood up and walked towards the door.
"Where are you going?"
Yamada didn't answer and just left the room.
Shida's thoughts froze for awhile and was awakened by another big sneeze.
"achooooo!!" *sniff *sniff...
Suddenly, 3 familiar girls appeared before her sight giving her weird looks... One girl finally opened up and sniggered. "I look up to you. You’re so bold to approach Yamada-kun even though you're only new... Serves you right!"
Shida suddenly felt the unfriendliness in the atmosphere...
"Do you really think Yama-chan will have an interest in you? Have you seen yourself?" another girl said with disgust expression on her face.
The other girl continued the insults and said: "you even waited for him in the school gates... You’re crazy if you think he'll notice you. Hah!!! What an ambitious girl..."
The other 2 girls agreed with a statement nodding away with laughter.
Even though a bit scared having a fight 3 versus 1, Shida boldly stood up to protect herself from their insults. However, before she can even open her mouth, a deep yet cool voice spoke over her shoulder.
"Gomen Shida-chan for not turning up yesterday. I didn't think you'll actually wait for me..."
Shida's eyes suddenly widened with both shock and confusion...
"ehhh??..."
"Let’s go..." Yamada gave a half smile to Shida then turned to the 3 amazed girls. "I hope it's alright if I borrow her for awhile."
He then grabbed Shida's hand then walked quickly towards the door...
"Chotto matte!! Where are we going??"
Yamada didn't answer yet still walking away with his hand holding Shida's
"Oyyy!!"
Yamada suddenly stopped dropping Shida's hand.
Saving herself from the awkwardness of the situation, Shida spoke first to fill the silence...
"What was that all about?? Errrmmm... Did you just save me from those bitchy girls?"
"woahhh... Did you eat something weird? You're actually being nice to me..."
Yamada finally spoke yet still as cold as ever: "This doesn't mean we're friends... Let's go already."
"Where are we going?"
"I thought you want to see the whole school? Let's get this over with."
Shida, still stunned by what she heard, took a step back and said: "Are you Yamada-kun? You can stop now. You're giving me the creeps..."
"I'll kill you!!" Yamada looked Shida with the coldest eyes ever then turned away.
Shida immediately grabbed his sleeve, not making him take another step further... "ehhh? You're not gonna leave me are you? You just started being nice to me. I might as well take advantage of it...”
Yamada still walked away from her giving the impression of being annoyed.
"oyyyyy!!! You can't leave me... Besides, I caught a cold yesterday because of you!!"
After hearing that, Yamada suddenly stopped without looking back at her.
Shida sensed his guilt and immediately run towards him...
"Let’s go Mr. Yamada Ryosuke..." she said with a smile.
She walked with Yamada with proud smile thinking: "I'm Shida Mirai. I won't lose to you that easily mister!! Ahaha.."
*the next day...*
"Ohayou!!" Shida greeted Yamada with a big smile thinking about the nice deed Yamada did for her the previous day.
As usual, Yamada just looked at her and minded his own business.
As expected... He's still the cold Yamada Ryosuke...
Shida pulled out a small box from her bag placing it on his table.
"douzo..."
"It’s my treat! You toured me around school yesterday so that's my act of saying thank you..."
"I don't need your thanks... Just leave me in peace and I'll be happy." Yamada said coldly to Shida.
"Pfffttt... Your back to being grumpy again!! Here..." Shida opened the small box and showed a cute strawberry shortcake.
Yamada unexpectedly leaned towards the cake and glared at it with an appreciative expression.
"kawaii..." he said quietly with a really soft smile across his face.
Shida had seen a cute side of Yamada still looking at the cake.
"He’s actually cute when he's smiling..." she thought.
Yamada looked at Shida with a weird expression. "I'm taking the cake!!"
"Thanks...” he said very softly even Shida can barely hear.
"What?? I didn't hear...” Shida said playfully.
Yamada didn't reply but took the box and placed it inside his bag.
"You’re welcome." Shida said. "You know what?! You're not that bad. Just a little smile and you'll be cute enough..."
"SMILE!!!!!" she put her hands on both sides of her lips and spreading them to indicate a big smile...
Yamada just gave her a cold look to show annoyance but after Shida left, he looked at the cake again and smiled at it naively as it is the first time someone had given him his favourite food as a present.
