Balancing creativity and research in the SCA A&S

I am writing this in answer to a question from alyclpal about how you balance creativity vs. research in SCA A&S projects. This is my own opinion based on 15 years in the SCA and if I seem less than humble in expressing myself, so be it ( Read more... )

I would really, REALLY like to see a division in competition pieces between "reproduction" (following the original closely) and "interpretation" (taking period elements and combining them in an original manner ( ... )

No problem on the research question, take your time. Someone I don't know commented on my comment saying something about research laurels. If there are any in Atlantia, I don't know who they are. I guess Finnr was close, but he also did bone carving. My guess is that it's hard to tell service from art and they languish there in the middle.
