No specific reason, really. It's just that reviews say that 10 is more like 7 than it is like 8, and I've gotten used to 8. Plus, my laptop was designed for 8, so it seems like a sideways step for my specific hardware.
And I usually don't do first-generation tech as a rule -- I like to upgrade after they've worked most of the kinks out of the system. I probably would have gotten a new laptop with 10 on it this summer, after they released a second-gen version. Not now.
Oh, shit. That's like the stunt "User profile could not be loaded" caused by Windows Updates. One really supsects what they smoke and drink in the offices that produce these kinds of errors. (The user profile error at least can be revoked by using the last restoration point before the update that caused it and then simply hiding it in the update panel. But on a device whose screen is disabled this is way lot more difficult...)
It's a very deliberate ploy to force me to "upgrade" to Windows 10. At least, that's what Sony customer service told me after sitting for an hour on hold. They said it differently, of course, but that's more or less what "Windows 10 provides continuing support for our drivers" translates to.
I have functionality for the moment, and the only remaining question is how offended I am by this process. I'm not sure yet :)
