Can anyone recommend any sort of fast-paced violinist music, like Vanessa Mae? I'm really not that familiar with the classical side of things. Other stringed music by soloists also good.

Is there any way of d/ling a website with firefox without going there and getting caught in insistent pop-ups?

Vivaldi's always good - quite perky, most of the time. Bach's Cello Suites are also rather fab. I've never actually heard any Vanessa Mae!

Technically impressive but her blend of Classics and Euro-RockPop is ear bleedingly bad. Think Europe doing Hooked on Classics with electric violins instead of guitars...

She has probably done some proper recordings of classical music - but I've no idea what she is like...

I got an album on the dirt cheap of a mix of her recordings, most incredibly bad like what you mentioned but also a few mostly classical that were quite good. I'm really just looking for some good violin/string solos.

Vivaldi is good for violin solos, The Four Seasons is the one you will see the most but the other Concertos are just as good and less overexposed. You may want to look at Mozart or Haydn - Mozart isn't really my cup of tea, but I suspect you will like. Another possibility would be the really rather amazing Brahms Violin Concerto - the final movement has some stunningly virtuoso writing in it.

If you fancy something intricate and hypnotic you may want to try Different Trains by Steve Reich - possibly a aquired taste and not really soloy (as it is string quartet) but is a great example of modern writing for strings.

Firefox should have its own pop-up blocker.

It does, and most of the time it works but this one's all for *making* you okay install something on your machine and determined to give you no other choice. I managed to ctrl-alt-delete it away.

Ah. In that case, hunt down and kill the owner of the site.

Well, er, I'll not take that advice for now since the domain is/was a free website hosting service that I sort of stored all my icons on. The site didn't used to be this bad. I didn't want to make/upload an more, just retrieve me old ones since I had trouble getting them off my previous computer.

But now as I type this comment I've remembered I stored most of them on photobucket. D'oh.
