Successful first-time backpacking!

Oct 07, 2014 20:50

I had signed up for a Beginner's Backpacking trip with the Trail Dames, an Atlanta-based group of women hikers of varying experience levels. I figured, hell, if I'm going to go do this, I'd rather be with people who have done this a lot, so I can learn things.

The Long Story! )

I'm so proud of you, Hillmount! Gorgeous photos- wish I could be transported into any of them RIGHT NOW. I hope you're still feeling the satisfaction and joy that comes from spending time in the glorious woods. Take me there.

I have been on a woods-buzz for two days now, which is Bad because I haven't gotten any work done! Time to get back to the real world. Right after I shop online for dry bags...! I would LOVE to hike back out there in a couple weeks and see how different the area is with the leaves in blazing fall colors. I bet it's sublime. Even though most of the hike is through pine forest, the campsite has more oaks and maples, so the colors must be dazzling. Also, I never saw the lake; I'd love to see that.

One thing I watched but didn't participate in, so I'm still uncomfortable with it: building a fire. That's what you're there for. :D Also, I didn't see how the other girls purified their water. My water purifier is a clunky thing; it would've been good to see their setups and compare. I bet they have those in-line pumps...
