The idea behind prison is rehabilitation not so much retribution. She is clearly no longer a threat to society - so why on earth pay for her to have medical care, three squares and a roof over her head? Take that money and use it to support a family. Let her die at her own devices.

And frankly, I don't think she deserved jail - she deserved the death penalty. But that is just my opinion.

You're right, she did deserve the death penalty, and ultimately she's going to get that now I guess ( a little too late IMO). And you do make a good point, I doubt society really wants to pay for her med bills.

I agree that she should have been given the death penalty but that's probably where my agreeance ends.

I have always been interested in the Manson Family case, and have done a lot of research on it for high school / college projects etc, and my opinions differ from a lot of people's.

But I am half and half on this. I don't think he needs to be released. She was given a sentence for a reason, she deserves to serve it.

I've read a lot of books about the Family and the murders (my parents remember it pretty vividly when it happened and have talked a bit about it too). I know for a fact that Manson should never be let out from prison and that's all I've really ever said about the whole thing, until they petition to be released (there was another that wanted out a few years ago). It's still an eerie, creepy story.. My parents always say "well now we've learned from it, this will never happen again in your or your children's' lifetime" but I disagree w/her.. we're human, ex: Waco and the like. We may have "learned" from it, but that doesn't mean that a psycho like Manson couldn't surface and try to control a group of people. *shrugs* it's always been an interesting topic for me. Must be the history buff in me lol

Charlie Manson didn't kill anyone. And as a mental health [one step down from psych] major I have to disagree with the whole brainwashing thing/mind control. Everyone has a choice as to what to believe and what to do. These people that he "made" kill the people from the Tate & LaBianca murders were fucked up outta their minds on drugs for one, and most likely had some sort of mental disorder to begin with [considering there was on a handful that participated in the actual murders]. There's no doubt in my mind that Charles Mason is a sick individual and deserves to be locked away, but being as he was never proved to have killed someone himself, and was charged and found guilty of murder based on the fact that these idiots said he "told them" to do it. Which he probably did but a lot of people tell me to do things that I don't do. That Tex Watson was the fucked up one to watch out for. They were all fucked up to begin with. The world's much better with them locked up and out of the way.
