Femslash, and why it's awesome.

Jan 14, 2010 07:44

So. The five thousandth iteration of "why or why not is boyslash appropriative of gay people or marginalizing women or whatever" is going on. Everyone has lots of wonderful things to say about it.

Guess what? I know you're shocked. Femslash is barely being touched on. At least, in the posts I've read thus far, it's been brought up tangentially.

I don't know, it's not that I don't care or consider these issues important. I just. Commenting is going to take some reading and mulling over everything.

But. Instead? While I mull that stuff? Can we talk about femslash today? (And also femslash_today.) Why do we write femslash? What kind of femslash is awesome? FAVORITE FEMSLASH PAIRINGS. Favorite femslash kinks! What fandoms do you wish had a bigger femslash presence? (All of them.)

For example, I watched Leverage last night, which has two regular female characters, and a couple of recurring female characters, and therefore brings actual femslash potential to the table, with potential for multiple pairings! (Which reminds me, I really have to find a plot for Maggie/Sophie. There's awesome to be had there. And fucked-upedness.)

Plus. Femslash. FUN TIMES. What do you like about it? What's the fic you desperately want someone to write? (Nefertiri/Ankh-Su-Namun hate sex. Seriously.)

What made you interested in femslash in the first place? Heck, what's the first femslash pairing you read? (I'm pretty sure it was Crusher/Troi for me.)

In short: YAY, GIRLSLASH! :)

ETA: Talk about whatever you want, so long as it's femslash-related, though I reserve the right to freeze your thread if you start bashing characters, pairings, or getting generally wanky.

ETA 02: Femslash recs of all kinds are WELCOMED AND SQUEED OVER!

ETA 03: OMG. Busy post! Been offline all night! Will reply to comments tomorrow.
