*snogs you*

You. Just. ROCK.

For me, it all began with that look is Rising...when John's about to leave and he looks up at Elizabeth and there's this HUGE trust between them already. It's like this PERFECT work relationship (with possible love) where trust reigns above all. (This is why I can't read est. relationships usually...or even smut!) Elizabeth is a LOT stronger than people think she is and John is SO WILLING to listen and take in other people's opinions. I don't see ducking into closets or Elizabeth swooning over her desk. I think they're too smart for that.

GOD, I love you for this.

Oh, and this? ...and Elizabeth's bosom heaving simply because he's there and he's attractive. Made me laugh my butt off. :D

You know, up 'till I met you, I was firmly with the not liking of John/Elizabeth. I didn't hate it, didn't go all ship war on people who did, but I just Did Not Get It. And then I started reading your fic, and had to go, "...Dammit. OKAY, NOW I GET IT."

That said:

This was an awesome piece of meta. The coherent brain-y things are somewhat lacking on this fine afternoon, but I will say your 'John is not an alpha male!' vibe is how I feel, just expressed much better and with less profanity.

It's possible to write it well, and to avoid Elizabeth giving in to John simply because he, I don't know, lifts her up on the kitchen counter and starts kissing her senseless. Estrogen doesn't work like that either. (Yes, Miera, I'm thinking of that story you wrote. It doesn't treat them like the trashiest of Harlequin characters. In case I wasn't clearHee. I admit, I started to cringe a little there. It wasn't easy trying to get these two people into the tropes of the romance novel. Elizabeth is way too stubborn, smart and independent to just accept "this big strong guy is kidnapping me for my own good!" and John's just not the type to throw his will onto other people unless he has a damn good reason. And even then he worries about the costs of his decisions all the time ( ... )

*pokes you* You know I used your scene as an example because it doesn't fit the criteria of stuff I'm griping about, right? I really love that scene, actually. ETA: I'll admit, I wasn't really CLEAR, I know, and I suck. Which is why I said specifically that story wasn't one that I disliked.

Just making sure I hadn't inadvertently upset you. I'm aware I can sometimes be tactless. :) Cool.

Being awake is totally overrated.
