Just a thought.

Most European archaeologists working in Egypt from the late 1800s through to the period before and after WWI, would spend the northern hemisphere winter working in Egypt, as it was much cooler at that time of year - for a European, and would spend the Egyptian summer back at their homes in Europe. This could well explain how Evie and Jonathan were mostly raised in England (children would often spend their entire childhood in the UK, only seeing their parents during the summers and spending the rest of the time with nannies and the like, until they were likely in their teens) and yet had some exposure to the Egyptian culture particularly when they would have started to travel to Egypt when they got older. But they would also have had some exposure through their mother when she was at home - ensuring that they spoke various local languages.

he chose Evie to sacrifice because of what Nefertiri did to him. That's totally spec, but it would be awesome if that were the case.)

That, or something like it, makes sense in-universe. (To the extent that the universe's treatment of souls makes sense, but we've had that discussion waaaay back.) It makes it no accident that he called her "my princess" in their first encounter. Which may or may not have been intended to hint at what eventually came up in the sequel, but I suspect Sommers had at least something like it in mind. It doesn't make any sense otherwise -- I've seen it interpreted as his somehow mistaking her for Anck-Su-Namun with his myopic stolen eyes, but that's not what he'd call her. It is what he'd call Nefertiri.

All excellent points, and a great deal of food for thought, the majority of which I'd not considered very much.

While part of me thinks that the surnames are coincidental ("Bey" just means "Sir"), I admit its an interesting possibility, that the two of them are related.

And maybe Ardeth's ancestor (taken by Cassandra) was none other than Narmer himself. just a thought.

(down that road, what if Evie's mother was Medjai or descended from Medjai?)

ps: hey Mathayus, which Thebes? ;)
