Seriously, Wizards of the Coast? Seriously?

Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition? Seriously?

I am not blowing hundreds of dollars on yet another new edition of this game.

Let's not talk about the character generator either, shall we?

ETA: On the plus side, the edition wars in the comments section are hilarious.

I don't even know what to do with that information. It feels like 4th Edition was only just released. Meanwhile my friends and I are quite happily playing with the 2nd edition rules. Honestly if they would re-release each edition they'd make far more money then if they created a new one. And it would keep their old and new fans happy.

Lol. yesterday at work the Boss sent an email asking if people wanted to playtest 5th ed. That started some debate here about the various editions, but then we started talking about Star Wars: Old Republic again.

I've played 4ed (with some expansion) and that's it (and our group didn't particularly like it - or at least the adventure we ran. I played a drangonborn sorcerer), so I'm pretty much a blank slate when it comes to d&d. I say that so you know I'm coming from a place of genuine curiosity when I ask what issues you have with their character generation? Is it more meta? is it number crunching? is it just that 4thed is inferior to 3.5?

Honestly, we keep our 3.0/3.5 and I still threaten to run 2nd or even 1st since I have a kindle and am not afraid to abuse it.

So far they've avoided using the '5th' moniker, referring to it as D&D Next...

And indications are that this would be released, at the earliest, at GenCon 2013, just in time for the 40th anniversary of D&D in 2014 (which has been targeted as a suspected potential revamp launch date for awhile)so you'd have another two years or so before new books start coming out. Why announce it so early? Maybe to get some real open playtest feedback? I guess we'll find out.

Since they've mentioned using the Encounters program to help playtest, I look forward to running whatever they come up with (later this year? for GenCon? who knows) but will be sticking to 4th Edition for our current game, don't worry. :-)

You know, it's EXPENSIVE ENOUGH to do role-playing anymore [since most books are now around $50 a pop], and we weren't really thrilled with the idea of 4 to begin with. XD So we never got the books for 4, and PRETTY sure we won't be bothering for 5. Or whatever they end up calling it. >_<;

3 tends to be our D&D Of Choice [although we really should have gotten our hands on 3.5, I guess. XD], no THACO! LOL Still bummed though, that they never updated Spelljammers, and didn't really update Ravenloft for 3, though.

Of course, the good old days of 1 meant that you could blow up a whole dungeon with a high enough level Fireball spell, so that could be fun too. XD
