Oh my God. This is just perfect. Tone and style... I was back to my Dresden File novel, sprinkled with Chandler. Wonderful 1st person POV. And how the hell can you create so much backstory with so little words? Music, and a bad hand, and longing... yeah. And do I spot a little Steve reference?

Jake, who looks like Aldis, huh? *g* And Edwin? *bg* Yay! Loved the cameos, and I'm not curious if there's more info to the plate, no, nope, not at all...

Whether there's more info on the plate honestly depends on a few things. Like if I'm bribed into writing more from this verse, and whether they request something to do with the plate or something else. Honestly I really could just let Agent Boreanaz go and deal with it separately. Though, why he never asked about what else was in the crate... But we don't need to worry about that unless Christian has reason to. Nope.

Trust me. I had to take breaks when writing the opening scene too. I was like "This is where we're starting?" And he gave me this look like if I didn't shut up and start writing he'd do it on my desk just to make a point. ;)

Honestly, this is perfect as a standalone. It could be a verse, true, but it's satisfying as it is. Although the idea of a Boreanaz POV... hmmm... *g*

The only way this could be done would be as stand alones in at least 5k word chunks. Snippets and shorts are nice but each one would need to be its own... mystery might be too strong a word. But you know what I mean? I wouldn't mind doing more. Assuming I was appropriately bribed, of course. There's a lot of interesting people... Hutton, for one. There's a lot to mine out of it given the opportunity. :g:
