Any of the grown ups - I'm talking anyone legally old enough to drink - up for a poker night?  Nothing too high stakes unless it goes that way and you don't need to bet with your credits here; Lords knows that on the Colonies ( Read more... )

[He's not really good at poker, but seeing that he's used to spend Christmas alone (and he somehow doubts that he'll be invited at any parties or dinners in this world), this could be a good way to spend the holiday.]

The club is closed on Christmas night. We could use it if you need somewhere to hold this poker night.

[There will be booze and it might be free. If he can buy out the club by then]

Yeah? That'd be great, I don't want a whole clusterfrak of drunks in my apartment.

[This is as much of a Christmas celebration as Kara is doing; this is not her culture, she does not like it.]

[There's an hint of a smile there]

No one does, I'm sure. Let me know how many players and at what time you want to hold it. I'll make sure the club's open for it.

Well, if the drunks were drunks from home I'd make an exception. And I'll get back to you ASAP on that but I'm thinking late, after some people have had time to do whatever holiday shit they're meant to do.

I promise not to steal all your credits in the first couple of hands if you agree.

Oooh, confident. I like that in a lady. [grins]

Well count me in. Got a venue for it?

[Confidence doesn't even begin to cover it.]

One of the guys I spoke to said he might be able to hold it in his club because it's closed for Christmas so no one will expect business there.

Poker? [High stakes and possible grand prizes?] I'd be up for that.

As soon as I get a venue and a definite date I'll get back to you. Got a name so I can give you a call?

If I wasn't afraid of being beaten so soundly, I'd be up for it.

[There is some deception in that sentence: 1) he's very confident in his ability to play poker and 2)there is no question that he's interested.]

Don't be a frakking little bitch about it. Man up and say you'll play.

[Smiles slowly. Not used to women talking to him like that.]

Can't really refuse when you phrase it like that. Think you'll get a good turn out?

[She just smirks back; slipping back into the Starbuck persona is easier for small things like this.]

I'd better. Makes it more interesting the more people you get round the table.

[She won't even mention Christmas again. Not a Colonial holiday so she's not interested.]

Better be able to hold yours. No fun playing cards with slobbering drunks.

You know, you'd be surprised how many military men say that and then start flipping the Gods damned tables.

[Saul Tigh, if Kara had a glass nearby she would raise it to you.]
