Over the years, Tess has travelled quite a bit. Most of it was for research in the warm climates of the Caribbean or South America, and the rest was pure pleasure - scuba diving. England never made it to her list. Or Europe in general, to tell the truth.
So it's with measured curiosity that she inspects Manchester as a hired car transports her from private airstrip to luxury hotel. She's not sure if it's what she expected or not. Probably more, since she wasn't really sure what to expect to begin with and if Tess had learned anything, it's to expect less so if you get more it's a pleasant surprise.
The hotel is satisfactory, the staff polite and accommodating. She takes her time unpacking, making sure everything is in its place, or as close as she can get so she's comfortable. If there's one thing she's used to it's making do with new accommodations. Then Tess takes the opportunity to rest, testing the very comfy chairs in the sitting area of her suite, waiting to be notified that Charlie has arrived.
